Dusan Tadic of Ajax stunned Lionel Messi as he breaks most assists in a calendar year record

    Ajax winger, Dusan Tadic has provided 37 assists in 2021 alone which has successfully broken the assists record Lionel Messi set at FC Barcelona in 2011.

    Before now, no player has been able to surpass the 36 assists Lionel Messi provided 10 years ago. Even Messi himself has not been able to repeat the feat despite his awesome form over the years.

    But the world got to know that Dusan Tadic has successfully surpassed Lionel Messi’s record after International Champions Cup made the announcement this weekend.

    This means that Tadic surpassed the ten-year-old record with one assist more than that of Lionel Messi.

    In the year Lionel Messi set the record, he helped FC Barcelona to win La Liga, Supercopa de España, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup. Messi also won a Ballon d’Or that year.

    As for Dusan Tadic, his effort so far this year has not earned him much. He has however scored 7 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions so far this season.

    The 33-year-old Serbian winger has the possibility of adding more assists to the 37 assists he has already recorded since January this year. Ajax still have two games this year – Feyenoord on December 19, and Fortuna Sittard on December 22.

    As it stands, the following are the major records of Lionel Messi that are still intact: Most goals in La Liga (474), most goals in La Liga and European league season (50), most hat-tricks in La Liga (36), and the UEFA Champions League (8), and most assists in La Liga (192).

    The former FC Barcelona talisman who is now playing for Paris Saint Germain won the 2021 Ballon d’Or to take his record in the award to seven, two more than his career rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

    Dusan Tadic started his professional football career at a Serbian club, Vojvodina on July 1, 2006. From there, he moved to Dutch club FC Groningen in 2010 for just €1.10 million.

    Afterward, Tadic joined Twente FC on July 1, 2012, for just €5.50 million. Two years after, he joined Premier League club Southampton for €14 million.

    On July 3, 2018, Dusan Tadic joined Ajax for just €13.70 million. Since then he has helped the club to score 83 goals and provide 82 assists in 171 games.

    The Serbian football star has helped Ajax to win two Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cup, and one Johan Cruyff Shield.
