Brazilian winger, Neymar, is out with an ankle injury that could keep him out of the Paris Saint Germain squad for at least eight weeks. From all indications, it seems PSG without Neymar is a blessing to the French giants instead of a curse as it ought to be.

Statistics have shown over time that PSG perform better without the 29-year-old winger who happens to be the most expensive footballer in the world.

Recall that the French side bought Neymar from FC Barcelona on August 3, 2017, for a world-transfer record fee worth €222 million.

Since then, the Brazilian winger has managed to play 130 games in all competitions in which he scored 90 goals and provided 55 assists.

He managed to play such few games because of the constant reoccurrence of injuries. Though he ought to be a big blow to PSG whenever the Brazilian is injured, available facts have proven otherwise.

The UEFA Champions League group game between PSG and Club Brugge on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, showed how fine PSG are without Neymar.

During the Champions League game, Kylian Mbappe scored two early goals in the 2nd and 7th minutes of the game to give PSG an early lead.

Lionel Messi scored in the 38th minute while Club Brugge’s Mats Rits scored for the away team in the 68th minute before Messi sealed the victory in the 76th minute from the penalty spot.

The 4-1 win helped PSG to finish second in UEFA Champions League group A with 11 points in 6 games, a point behind first placed Manchester City.

Here are statistical facts that prove that PSG is fine without Neymar

Without Neymar, PSG are better.

The 4-1 win over Club Brugge on Tuesday has taken PSG’s win percentage without Neymar to a whopping 86 percent. While the club’s percentage win with Neymar stands at 64 percentage.

In terms of goals, PSG have recorded 2.7 goals per match without Neymar and an average of 2.6 points per match without the Brazilian winger. While in his presence, PSG’s recorded 1.8 goals per match and an average of 2.1 points per match.

The fact that PSG are doing better without Neymar is a bad business because when the club signed Lionel Messi in August from FC Barcelona, the dream was that the combination of Neymar, Mbappe, and Messi would dominate club football. But since Messi joined the club, the three football stars have not been able to play excellently well together.

Hence, most football analysts believe that it is the fault of coach Mauricio Pochettino who has not been able to find a format that would work for the crop of players he has in his possession.

But the coach seems to be getting everything right in the absence of Neymar who has scored three goals and provided three assists in 14 games in all competitions this season. Hence, it is tempting to say, Neymar is surplus to requirement at PSG currently.
