Cristiano Ronaldo shared a photograph on his Instagram page on Sunday, August 2, to celebrate himself and his teammate at Juventus, Gianluigi Buffon, after winning his second Italian Serie A title in a row. In the caption, the Portuguese football icon urged his over 233 million Instagram followers to guess how many trophies he and the Juventus goalkeeper have won.
“Guess how many trophies these two young men’s won? 🤔 #thestorycontinues”, the 35-year-old former Real Madrid and Manchester United star caption the picture showing he and Buffon posing with the Serie A title on July 26, 2020.
In a hilarious manner, the Italian and Juventus goalkeeper who is currently 42-year-old, took to the comment section of Ronaldo’s Instagram post and wrote: “Why counting them? We have our whole career ahead of us.”
Recall that Juventus were crowned champions of the Italian Serie A for the 9th time in a row and for the 36th time in the club’s history. They sealed the title when they defeated Sampdoria 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, the club’s base, on Sunday, 26 July 2020.
In the just-concluded 2019-2020 season, Ronaldo and Buffon were the club’s two football legends that were involved, directly and indirectly as Juventus continued their dominance in the Italian Serie A. Though Buffon was used mostly as a backup goalkeeper to the club’s first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, he has proudly landed his record 10 Serie A title as a player at Juventus.
While Ronaldo who joined the Italian club prior to the 2018-2019 season, successfully landed his second Serie A title and scored 31 goals in the league to become the third player in the club’s 122 years history to score at least 30 goals in a single season. He ended the season as the league second-highest goalscorer behind Lazio’s Ciro Immobile.
In an Instagram post Ronaldo shared when the Serie A season officially ended on Sunday, he urged his teammates to get fired up for his third Serie A title which implies that the Portuguese football icon intends to stay at Juventus to see out the 2020-2021 season.
“Happy to win the last two of the nine Serie A consecutive titles for Juventus”, Ronaldo wrote on Instagram. “It seems easy but it isn’t! How many trophies are between Buffon and Ronaldo?
Buffon is arguably the most decorated goalkeeper in the history of football. In fact, he is regarded by many as the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the game. He has numerous personal records and has won almost everything in the game except UEFA Champions League and European championship.
However, he has won everything in club football in Italy with Parma and especially Juventus. He has also won French Ligue title and Trophée des Champions during his one-season spell at Paris Saint Germain in the 2018-2019 season.
Altogether, Button has won 29 trophies including one FIFA World Cup which he won with Italy in Germany 2006.
On the other hand, Ronaldo has played in three major leagues in Europe – Premier League, La Liga, and Italian Serie A. While in those leagues, he won virtually every major title that was there to win and numerous personal awards.
