Chelsea has a very busy January transfer window, the Blues signed several players to strengthen their side as they are currently in a difficult period of the season.

Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea Graham Potter’s side are currently in 10th position in the Premier League standings, and also still competing in the UEFA Champions League. The Blues were eliminated from FA Cup and EPL Cup due to a poor start to the season.

Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly empowered the club as they added several young talents that saw them welcome David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, Mykahilo Mudryk, Malo Gusto, Joao Felix and Enzo Fernandez that secure his move on deadline day.

This season’s transfer activity from Chelsea has been phenomenal, a total of over £600 million was spent throughout the current season. A total of £323 million was spent on new players during the January window. There were a total of 18 recruits added to the team.

Furthermore, this raises concerns regarding whether or not Chelsea’s expenditure is by Financial Fair Play.

The sale of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica to Chelsea was finalized late on deadline day, making him Chelsea’s final new player.

The west London team chased the World Cup winner all of January and ultimately spent a British transfer record amount to sign him away from the Portuguese club.

Given that Fernandez is still in his first season at Benfica, Chelsea’s £105 million purchase price seems excessive.

But it seems that Fernandez’s World Cup performances satisfied Chelsea’s owners. After 12 hours of talks, Todd Boehly still wouldn’t accept defeat.

When Jorginho’s contract at Stamford Bridge entered its final six months, he went to Arsenal, and Chelsea brought in Fernandez to take his position.

In contrast to the seven players that were signed during this window, Jorginho was Chelsea’s only departure.

Chelsea’s roster is currently stacked with talented players and depth at every position, thanks to these signings.

Hakim Ziyech, who was set to make a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain but unfortunately the deal didn’t fall through, might not start for the club this year.

Interestingly, the packed roster is still missing several new additions.

Gusto has also agreed to a transfer from Lyon and will officially join Chelsea this coming summer, while reports have it that Chelsea has a pre-contract agreement to bring Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.

Chelsea has more options following their signings during the transfer window and Graham Potter is in a position where he can rotate his squad and adopt any tactical system of his choice for the remainder of the season.
