Charlotte FC makes use of “off-season” buyout on Yordy Reyna

Major League Soccer side, Charlotte FC, have made use of their buyout during off-season on winger Yordy Reyna, the club revealed this information on Friday. 

The Peruvian international was part of Charlotte’s highest-paid players according to the figures put out by MLS Players Association. 

The team will not include any international player for the 2023 wage budget. 

He is an experienced player who has featured across seven seasons in the MLS, Yordy Reyna scored three (3) goals and made three (3) assists in nineteen (19) matches throughout the course of Charlotte’s 2022 season.

Yordy Reyna was previously at Vancouver Whitecaps FC from the year 2017 till 2020. He afterwards spent a season with DC United before crossing over to The Crown as a free agent. 

Reyna has scored twenty-seven (27) goals and made twenty-two (22) assists in one-hundred-and-nineteen (119) Major League Soccer (MLS) games.

How Yordy Reyna started his professional footballing career

The 29-year-old began his career in his country, Peru, with Club Alianza Lima before traversing to Europe signing for Australia Bundesliga heavyweights Red Bull Salzburg.

The la Blanquirroja of Peru International has made 30 appearances for his national team, scoring two (2) goals since making his debut in 2013.

Both goals came against Trinidad and Tobago and Panama in 2013.

When Charlotte 2023 MLS season will start?

The Crown begin their 2023 MLS season on the 25th of February welcoming New England Revolution to the Bank of America Stadium Charlotte in North Carolina. 

It would be their second season competing in the MLS since the club was founded on the 17th of December, 2019.

Yordy Reyna was born in the city of Chiclayo, he moved to Lima at age fourteen (14) and during his first trial for Peruvian club, Alianza Lima, he was impressive with that performance earning him a chance to burgeon through the ranks in the youth team of the club. 

He is fast and also a good good passer of the ball, both long and short passes.

These are some of the traits that Alianza Lima saw which made them accommodate him into the youth system of the club. 

He earned his graduation to the senior team of Alianza Lima after he scored seven (7) goals in the Torneo de Promoción y Reserva which is the reserve league for teams in the first division.

Yordy Reyna has scored fifty (50) goals in two hundred and thirty four appearances across all club competitions in his career. 

He assisted Red Bull Salzburg in winning the 2013/14 Austrian Bundesliga title playing a key role in their way to lifting the League trophy. 

Reyna won the 2015/16 Austrian league title in addition to winning the 2013/14 and 2015/16 Austrian Cup.
