The second batch of matches in the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup was filled with upsets and even expected results as teams strutted their stuff in the competition.
The 3rd round provided a breath of fresh air for some teams, as they felt what it meant to win once again.
Some were handed their first taste of a defeat across all competitions since the start of the league season, while other top contenders continued their remarkable start to the campaign.
Newcastle United hand Manchester City first defeat since the start of the 2023/24 season
St James’ Park saw amazing football on parade between Newcastle United and Manchester City, as both teams looked to progress into the next round.
However, it was not to be for Pep Guardiola’s side, as Alexander Isak scored the decider in the 53rd minute to hand the Magpies a great cup victory.
Liverpool came back from a goal down to comprehensively batter Leicester City at Anfield.
Kasey McAteer scored the opener to put the Foxes into the lead, but goals from Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Diogo Jota secured the Reds passage into the fourth round.
Stamford Bridge also witnessed Chelsea return to winning ways, as Mauricio Pochettino’s lads defeated Brighton.
The Blues picked up their 3rd win in 8 matches since the start of the season, and they would be hopeful that it signals the start of success at the club.
Villa slump to a defeat against Everton
Aston Villa fell to a shocking defeat to Everton, with Sean Dyche’s side now making it two victories from two matches across all competitions this term.
The Villans couldn’t stop a charged-up Toffees from securing victory at their home turf, and as aforementioned, it appears Everton are back to winning ways.
Arsenal secured a good victory over Brentford to book their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, as Reiss Nelson had his name on his score sheet.
Marco Silva’s Fulham recorded a 2-1 win over Norwich City, with Carlos Vinicius and Alex Iwobi scoring for the Cottagers, while Borja Sanz netted the consolation for the away side.
West Ham United secured a lone victory over Lincoln City to earn progress into the fourth round, while Bournemouth defeated Stoke City by 2-0.
Blackburn Rovers thumped Cardiff City 5-2, with Andre Moran scoring a brace, Jake Garrett, Arnor Sigurdsson, and Dilan Markanday, also had their name on the score sheet.
Callum Robinson and Kion Etete scored for Cardiff City, in an entertaining evening at Ewood Park.
