German Bundesliga is expected to commence this weekend, Saturday 16th May 2020, after it was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. All the players and backroom staff of both the first and second tier of the league have been tested for the virus.
Though about 10 people involved with the league tested positive for the virus, that won’t stop the season from resuming on Saturday. Bundesliga has already released the fixtures for the restart of the season and all plans are in motion to commence playing behind closed doors this season.
In the spirit of the return of the 2019-2020 season in Germany, Futballnews looked at some of the prominent stars and their stats of the interrupted season.
Bundesliga: Robert Lewandowski
The most outstanding player in terms of scoring goals remains the undisputed striker Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern Munich forward has scored a whopping 25 goals before the season was halted. Besides scoring goals, the Polish international has also made 3 assists so far. Since the commencement of the season, Lewandowski has recorded 110 shots, making him the player with the highest amounts of shots in the league.
Bundesliga: Thomas Müller
Thomas Müller is also another outstanding figure in Bayern Munich. He has proven that he is arguably the most prolific midfielder in the league and a king of assists. He is the player with the highest amount of assists in Bundesliga.
The aforementioned players have been in the game for a while and they have proven over time that they are no pushovers. But there are two youngsters in the league that have taken the league by storm this season. These stars are Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner.
Bundesliga: Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund is arguably the hottest youngster in the summer transfer market. The 20-year-old fast-rising star has proven to be one of the most vibrant footballers in the German Bundesliga in the 2019-2020 season.
This season alone, the England international has played 23 matches for Dortmund. In those games, he has scored 14 goals, making him the current third highest goal scorer. Besides that, he has made 15 assists which is the second-highest assists in the league this season.
Bundesliga star: Timo Werner
The second wonder kid is Timo Werner. The 24-year-old German international has scored 21 times in the league this season for RB Leipzig to maintain the second-highest goal scorer of the league behind Lewandowski. German Bundesliga’s fans will want to see how far he can go in the remaining 9 games.
The weekend is almost here and fingers are already crossed over the outcome of the first day of professional football in Germany since football was suspended in March. Though fans might not have access to the stadia, their eyes will be glued to their television set to see whether Lewandowski, Jadon Sancho, Thomas Müller, and Timo Werner can finish what they have Started.
