Bruno Fernandes has written to the fans of Manchester United reassuring them that he and his teammates might win trophies in the future despite their series of missed opportunities to do so in their just-concluded 2019-2020 season.
Manchester United missed three opportunities to win a trophy for their teaming fans as they lost three semi-finals within the 2019-2020 season – EFL Cup semi-finals to Manchester City, FA Cup semi-finals to Chelsea and Europa League semi-finals to Seville.
The club which showed the best of form when Bruno Fernandes joined the club in late January, are still licking their wounds while they reflect on their journey in the 2019-2020 season. Though they succeeded in finishing the season on the 3rd spot which qualifies them for the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League campaign, the fans wanted them to crown their success in the concluded season with a trophy.
On his part, Bruno Fernandes who has suddenly become the club’s talisman shared a picture of the team with his over 2.6 million Instagram followers telling them how much they have tried to win something for them before the season ended.
The 25-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder who congratulated Spanish La Liga side Seville for beating his team to get to the Europa League final insisted that Manchester United played better and deserved the final’s ticket.
“Unfortunately our journey in the Europa League ends here,” Bruno wrote on Instagram. “It wasn’t what we expected. We wanted to be in the final and fight for the trophy we so desired. Whilst we congratulate Sevilla for making it to the final, we still played well and we didn’t deserve to stop here.
“It is now time for rest and to reflect so that we come back even stronger and reach the goals we set ourselves for the next season!
“Thank you to all my team-mates and staff who welcomed me so well over these past months at the Red Devils. I hope to continue to learn and grow every day with you, and that we may conquer many titles in the future. Together we lose, together we make mistakes and together we grow.”
The performance of Bruno Fernandes
Within the space of 6 months at Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes has established himself as one of the most important players in Ole Gunnar Solskjae‘s squad. He has been the penalty taker of the squad since football returned in Europe in June.
This has helped him to score a total number of 8 goals in 14 appearances in the Premier League alone. It has also helped him to score three goals for United in the Europa League. Altogether, since he started playing for United in February 2020, the Portuguese international has scored 12 goals and has made 8 assists in 22 games.
His performance since he joined the club has not gone unnoticed as he has earned two Premier League player of the month awards – February 2020 and June 2020. One of his goals for United was voted Goal of the month in June 2020.
More so, Bruno Fernandes is on the verge of being the highest goalscorer in the Europa League as he left the competition with 8 goals. He scored 5 of the goals with his former club Sporting Lisbon and scored the other three for United. He has Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku with 6 goals, to contend with for the award. The Belgian striker needs to score at least three goals in the final against Seville on Friday, August 21, 2020, before he can overtake the Portuguese attacking midfielder.
