David Beckham owned MLS club Inter Miami had on Thursday announced the signing of French world cup hero Balise Matuidi as their first summer signing and the first big-name signing. Some fans felt let down; rumors had started flying over the place of the imminent arrival of the Juventus midfielder, which was met with an equal amount of enthusiasm and tongue-in-cheek praised by fans.

The World cup winner is seen as a solid buy and a proven winner who still has enough energy in his tank to help the club push for recognition in the MLS after a well-documented career with Europe’s top club such as Paris Saint-German and Juventus.
However, some fans feel the French man does not pull the kind of celebrity status the like of Edison Cavani, Willian, Luis Suarez, David Silva, or James Rodriguez could bring to the club’s mission of being the biggest club from North America.

Beckham Matuidi friendship made from France.

David Beckham signed for french club PSG on the last day of January 2013 transfer window in a five months deal where he donated all his earnings during his time at PSG to a children’s charity. He made 14 appearances and two assists for PSG, in May 2013 Beckham announced his retirement from football and in his last game assisted a goal for Blaise Matuidi from a corner before he was subbed off in the 80th minute with a standing ovation from the all the fans in the stadium as PSG won the match 3-1 against Brest.

At the same time, fans are beginning to realize how much stability Matuid can bring to the club as the club has lost its first five matches in the league. The team now has a more balanced and competitive team to put on the field.

In financial terms, the player was not signed as a Designated Player rather a Targeted Allocation Money which would mean the former Juventus midfielder would be on bargain salary of 1.5 million euro/season, which gives the club enough room to sign some big names from the transfer market without worrying about their financial threshold.

At the moment, the club has only two Designated Players; Mexican player Rodolfo Pizarro and Argentinian youngster Matias Pellegrini with one more slot available the club fans would hope they can bring in a game-changer or goal scorer to the club.

However, the team needs to learn the act of signing some of Europe stars who find the MLS financially unattractive due to the salary cap, which keeps their earning limited. It seems Matuidi was enticed by the team’s steam’s ambition and plans and wanted to be a part of the big plan.

The club fans can only be hopeful that they get the big-name signing to fill the third Designated Payer spot, preferably a goal-scoring player, but the signing of Matuidi is more than a coup as the team as nothing to offer but its plans and belief.
