Thomas Tuchel has thrown in the towel in the race for the German Bundesliga title, following the 2-0 loss for Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Karim Adeyemi and Julian Ryerson’s goals in the 10th and 83rd minute handed the away side their first victory over the Bavarians since 2019.

The defeat left Bayern Munich 13 points off league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who recorded a 2-1 comeback win over Hoffenheim earlier on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Thomas Tuchel claims Bayern Munich are out of German Bundesliga title race

Speaking following the game, after he was questioned if Bayern Munich were out of the title race, Tuchel said: “Obviously, yes.”

He then proceeded to congratulate Leverkusen, saying: “After today’s game there is no more need to count points. How many is it now? Congratulations to Leverkusen.”

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso confirmed on Friday, March 29, 2024, that he will remain at the Bay Arena next campaign, putting an end to reports that he could become the next boss of Bayern Munich.

Alonso is on the verge of guiding Leverkusen to their first German Bundesliga title, with the club needing just 3 wins from their last 7 games to clinch the crown.

If they win the title, that will signal a halt to Bayern Munich’s hunt for a 12th consecutive Bundesliga title.

Meanwhile, the victory for Borussia Dortmund could be vital to their top 4 hopes, as they are now 3 points clear of RB Leipzig, who sit 5th on the log.

The win was their first win over the Bavarians in Munich and it was truly a delightful scene for Edin Terzic.

Thomas Tuchel will be leaving Bayern Munich in a sorry state, with the team possibly going trophyless this campaign.

What this could mean for Harry Kane and Kingsley Coleman?

This will result in the continuation of Harry Kane’s hunt for a major honor, having left Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 in order to win titles.

Kingsley Coleman is also set for a trophyless season, the first ever in his professional career, having won a trophy at every season in his football career.

Bayern Munich’s ordeal this season has resulted in them looking for an incoming manager, with names like Ralf Ragnick, Roberto De Zerbi, and Hansi Flick said to be on their recruitment list.

Julian Nagelsmann, who Tuchel replaced in March 2023, is also said to be on their shortlist, as they look to turn their fortunes from bad to good.

It is certainly an odd season for the German giants, with the team not playing up to standards and not up to the taste of the fans.

Anyway, they return to action on April 6, 2024, facing FC Heidenheim in a Matchday 28 Bundesliga encounter.

The Munich-based club will be looking to make amends for their errors in the game against Borussia Dortmund, as they look to end the season on an impressive note.
