Bayer Leverkusen have etched their name in history, by becoming the team with the longest unbeaten run in European football since UEFA competitions began.

Leverkusen, who have made a habit of scoring late goals this campaign, penned their name in history courtesy of two goals in the dying embers of their second-leg UEFA Europa League clash against Roma.

It appeared like their unbeaten run was on the verge of being halted by AS Roma, following goals from Leandro Parades via the spot in the 43rd minute and 66th minute.

Bayer Leverkusen Had To Battle Hard To Keep Their Unbeaten Run

However, Bayer Leverkusen had to fight the hard way, reprising a feat that they have done on many occasions this season, by coming back from the dead.

The Bundesliga champions pulled 1 back in the 83rd minute, with defender Gianluca Mancini scoring an own goal after putting the ball into his net, with goalie Mile Svilar unable to stop it from going in.

Xabi Alonso’s side continued to search for their second of the game, and deep into stoppage time (90+7), Josip Stanisic, who is on loan from Bayern Munich, got them the leveler.

Bayer Leverkusen Looking To Crown Unbeaten Season With Treble Success

Bayer Leverkusen are eyeing a treble this campaign, with the DFB-POKAL very much within their reach, as they play Bundesliga 2 side FC Kaiserslautern in the final on May 25, 2024.

In the UEFA Europa League, they have a date with Atalanta on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

Bayer Leverkusen have scored 136 goals in 49 matches this campaign, an undeniably staggering figure, and they have also netted in stoppage time in 12 of their 49 matches played this season.

Their driving force could be their never-say-die attitude and their belief that they can still salvage something even in the corridor of adversity or in sight of oblivion.

Bayer Leverkusen have 4 matches left this season across all competitions, two in the German Bundesliga against VFL Bochum, and Augsburg, alongside crucial fixtures with trophies at stake against FC Kaiserslautern (DFB-POKAL final), and Atalanta FC (UEFA Europa League final).

Many are backing them to go the entire season unbeaten, in what will be an astonishing campaign for them.

Their outstanding display this term has seen them become globally known, with news fans also coming into the mix and throwing their weights behind the club, hopefully, they aren’t fairweather supporters.

Several players of the German side have also been linked with a move to other clubs, including; Victor Boniface, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Amine Adli amongst others.
