Aymen Barkok was rushed to the hospital after he was gruesomely attacked at a bar in Berlin, Germany.

The Hertha Berlin man was relishing a night out in the capital of Germany on Saturday when he was physically assaulted before subsequently being rushed to the hospital with facial injuries.

Following his overnight stay at the healthcare facility, the Morocco international had an operation on Sunday, April 27, 2024.

Barkok is expected to miss the remainder of matches this campaign for Hertha Berlin, as he recovers from the unfortunate incident.

Hertha Berlin also confirmed the attack on the footballer via an emotional statement, which reads: 

“We were horrified to learn yesterday that Aymen Barkok was physically attacked in a Berlin bar during the night from Saturday to Sunday and had to be taken to hospital with facial injuries.”

They additionally sent the attacker their best wishes and assured him that he would always be on their minds during this phase.

The German club added: “Aymen had a successful operation yesterday, Sunday, but will not be available to us for the time being.

“We wish you a speedy recovery, Aymen! We are thinking of you.”

Barkok at Hertha Berlin

Barkok moved to Hertha Berlin on loan in January 2024 from Bundesliga side Mainz 05, and he has been crucial in helping the club as they battle to gain promotion to the top flight.

Aymen Barkok has made 13 appearances this campaign, scoring 1 goal and providing no assist in all competitions.

Hertha Berlin are just a point off the playoff spots, as they sit 8th on the log with 45 points from 31 matches.

Barkok started his professional football career at Eintracht Frankfurt, and during his time at the club, he also had a stint with Fortuna Düsseldorf, joining the club on loan on July 1, 2018, for a fee of €800,000.

Aymen Barkok then left Frankfurt on July 1, 2022, to join Mainz 05 on a free transfer, where he has made 40 appearances, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists.

He is expected to return to the club at the end of the season when his loan stint with Hertha Berlin comes to an end.

Internationally, Barkok has made 18 appearances for Morocco, scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists.

He also represented Germany internationally at youth level, playing for the Under 16, Under 17, and 21.

Aymen Barkok can function as a right winger and attacking midfielder, and he has won just 2 trophies in his career, namely; 1 DFB-POKAL and 1 UEFA Europa League title.

The German-born Morocco international won both trophies with Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

Cumulatively, Barkok, 25, has made 131 club career appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 8 assists in all competitions.
