Antony was sighted at Old Trafford on crutches with his foot in a protective boot, during Manchester United’s final match of the season against Fulham on Sunday, 28th of May.
There is now more concern that he won’t make it to the FA Cup final match on Saturday, 3rd of June.
However, according to Erik ten Hag, the 23-year-old is expected to be available.
What happened to Antony?
The 23-year-old Brazilian winger was stretched out in Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Thursday, 25th of May.
Antony, the former Ajax forward was given medical treatment in the 29th minute of play at Old Trafford, following a powerful slide tackle from Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
He dropped to the floor in an instant, wriggling in pain as he clutched his foot.
He was carried off the field on a stretcher, with his hands covering his face.
Manchester United head coach, Ten Hag entered the pitch to comfort the Brazilian star and acknowledged after the game that the wound was “serious”.
The condition that forced him to miss the final two months of the 2017–18 Ajax season has apparently returned.
His season was cut short by an injury he sustained while playing for Brazil in their 4-0 victory over Bolivia on 30 March 2022.
Antony’s participation in next week’s FA Cup final against local rival Manchester City has been called into question due to the injury.
Erik ten Hag, though, is optimistic that his £82 million Ajax signing will be healthy enough to participate in the final game at Wembley Stadium on June 3rd.
Since arriving from Ajax, Antony has failed to live up to his potentials.
Antony stat this season:
He has only scored eight times in 44 games for the Red Devils, and his erratic play has angered many supporters.
The Brazil international has been crucial to Ten Hag’s ambitions, and one of his goals this season came against Manchester City.
Antony, a left-footer, has contributed to the team’s assault by operating on the right flank and cutting in from there.
It has supplied him with occasional flashes of brilliance, but it is not a skill he has consistently demonstrated.
What Erik ten Hag said about Antony’s possible fitness ahead of Manchester United FA Cup final against Manchester City:
Ten Hag told reporters: “We have all seen he came out last Thursday, so it’s quite soon, but we think it’s not bad”.
“He probably will be available for the cup final next week”.
During his discussion with MUTV, Ten Hag added: “We’ve all seen how he came off and it didn’t look great but the first assessment is not too bad, there is a good opportunity he is available for the cup final next week”.
What’s next for Antony?
The Brazilian winger will be hoping to be fully fit before Manchester United’s FA Cup final against their local rivals Manchester City on the 3rd of June.
