The manager of Chelsea football club, Thomas Tuchel has been dragged to comment on the lingering contract extension talks between Antonio Rudiger and the Premier League side. The German tactician stressed that the German defender is at the right club and that the player is committed to the club.

Antonio Rudiger has become one of the most consistent players at Chelsea in the last two seasons. His ability to defend at the highest level, drive the ball forward and contribute to the attack, has made him one of the most wanted defenders in Europe.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, Rudiger hit the peak of his career in terms of performance when his contract with the London-based club is on the verge of expiring.

The 28-year-old German center-back who joined Chelsea from Roma on July 9, 2017, for a transfer fee worth €35 million will cease to be a Chelsea player on June 30, 2022, if the club fails to extend his contract before then.

Reports claimed that Chelsea have been in talks with the German international but the talks have been dragging because the club and the player are yet to agree on personal terms.

Reports claimed that Antonio Rudiger who currently earns £5,200,000-per-year at Chelsea wants to be assured that he would be made one of the highest-paid players at the club.

Hence, Rudiger is reportedly asking for nothing less than £12,000000-per-year from Chelsea before he can sign his contract extension with the club.

If Chelsea agrees to that, Rudiger will become the fourth highest-paid player at the Premier League side, behind the highest paid Romelu Lukaku ( £16,900,000), second-highest-paid N’Golo Kante (£15,080,000), and third-highest paid Timo Werner (£14,144,000).

On the contrary, Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay him nothing less than £8,000000-per-year which will make him the 7th highest-paid player at the club behind goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga (£8,060,000-per-year).

Despite the back and forth between Antonio Rudiger and Chelsea over his contract extension saga, the 28-year-old German defender has continued to become almost indispensable in Chelsea’s defense.

So far this season, the German international has played a total number of 16 games in all competitions in which he has scored two goals and provided an assist.

He is reportedly wanted by Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid, and a couple of other top European clubs that are reportedly willing to offer him what Chelsea are finding difficult to offer him.

Ahead of the Chelsea Champions League group game against Juventus scheduled to take place at Stamford Bridge later today, November 23, at 21:00, Thomas Tuchel said lingering negotiation between Chelsea and Rudiger has no negative impact on the player’s performance.

“It does not affect his mentality, it does not affect his quality and it does absolutely not affect his behavior,” the coach said.

“He is fully committed to Chelsea right now. I am absolutely sure he feels the trust and respect and the love from the club and the spectators.

“He is a big competitor and he is in exactly the right spot. He is in the most competitive league, he is at a club where he really matters, and that suits him perfectly, so let’s be patient, and hopefully, we have a good ending.”
