Ansu Fati may not leave Barcelona anytime soon as the club has reportedly rejected a whopping 100 million euros bid from Premier League side, Manchester United. The Premier League club tried to forgo their interest for the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and go for the 17-year-old record-breaking winger but they were disappointed.
Unfortunately for the Premier League club, Barcelona has a different plan for the young La Masia graduate who has already scored 5 goals and made one assist in 202 minutes of football in the 2019-2020 season.
Since Ansu Fati made his first appearance for Barcelona senior team in 2019 when he was just 16 years and 298 days old, becoming the second-youngest player in the history of the club to do so, he has been very hungry for more playing time.
The hunger became more intense on August 31, 2019, when he scored his first goal for Barcelona at the age of 16 years and 304 days, becoming the Barcelona senior team’s youngest goalscorer ever and the third-youngest scorer in the history of La Liga.
He also holds the record of being the youngest player in the UEFA Champions League to score a goal when he scored the game-winner in Barcelona’s 2–1 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro in December. He was just 17 years and 40 days old at the time.
Ansu Fati is for the future
Despite all these glowing stats about the Guinea-Bissau born Spanish player, Barcelona has not been giving him enough playing time and his agent, Jorge Mendes, has been doing everything possible to get him out of Barcelona.
Mendes has been reportedly speaking with some big clubs in Europe, especially Manchester United in an attempt to broker a deal that will see the 17-year-old winger leave the club. Even the 170 million euros asking price of the club didn’t scare him from trying.
Barcelona thought the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on clubs would make it impossible for any club to offer up to 100 million euros for Ansu Fati. To their surprise, Manchester United reportedly made the offer which should ordinarily be impossible to resist at this critical time.
Yet, the club is looking at the bigger picture. They believe that Fati would end up being the next Lionel Messi of the club and they won’t want to trade him for anything right now. In fact, there are reports coming out from Barcelona that the club’s board is planning to repackage his contract which ought to expire in 2022. In the contract they are reportedly reworking for him, a 400 million euros release clause will be included in it in order to scare his suitors away.
