Adidas Debunks Reports Of Holding Talks With Manchester United Over Mason Greenwood Future

The future of Mason Greenwood continues to be shrouded in complexity as Adidas still maintain their position on his future at Manchester United.

The German athletic apparel and footwear brand insists they have not held any conversation with Manchester United.

This is coming due to growing optimism from fans, who want to see the youngster return to active footballing action.

Mason Greenwood’s last featured for Manchester United in a 1-0 victory over West Ham United on January 22, 2022.

His inability to feature for Manchester United was due to indictments of rape, engaging in controlling, coercive behavior and assault which were levelled against him.

However, those charges were dropped in February and Greenwood has since been acquitted of those allegations.

Even though those charges have been dropped, Manchester United still haven’t lifted the youngsters suspension.

The Old Trafford club revealed in February that they would be launching their own investigation to ascertain the future of Mason Greenwood.

The contract of the 21-year-old will expire in the summer of 2025 and Manchester United still have to option to extend it for a further year.

Anyway, reports from the Sun on Friday, June 28, 2023 indicated that Manchester United and Adidas have discussed over the potential return of Mason Greenwood.

The Sun termed those discussions as “positive” but there are now conflicting reports on those claims.

Adidas are Manchester United’s shirt sponsor, having signed a 10-year contractual agreement in 2015 and they have debunked those reports concerning any conversation holding.

A spokesperson of the global Sportswear brand stated that those reports circulating are “inaccurate”.

They stated the need for the brand to clarify the position of Adidas regarding any of such conversation taking place.

The Spokesperson of Adidas said: “After inaccurate and speculative reporting within the media it’s important for us to clarify that Adidas has had no discussions with Manchester United regarding any member of their playing squad.”

Additionally, they made it known to all and sundry that they “play no role in any decisions made concerning any member of the team or staff of the club”.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has also shared his thoughts on the future of Mason Greenwood.

Ten Hag said it’s a decision that would be taken by the hierarchy of the club and everyone would have to accept the decision made.

He said:  “It’s a club decision and of course, I shared my opinions but it’s a club decision and we all have to accept that.”

Several clubs have reportedly indicated their interest in the youngster, who was at some point the best youngster in the world of football due to his immense qualities.

Juventus and Atalanta are amongst the clubs considering signing the 21-year-old amid speculations that there are interests from the Premier League.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has also shared his two cents on Mason Greenwood.

Rooney said: “I think the best thing for Mason now is to get out of the club and go and develop somewhere else. He needs to get back playing because it has been a long time.”

He also expressed the need for the youngster to go ply his trade in another club due to “how long” the investigation has taken.

The 37-year-old added: “With everything that has happened and how long the internal investigation has taken, it’s probably got to a place now where Mason just needs to go and play and to try and get his career back on track.”

Mason Greenwood has scored 35 goals and provided 12 assists in 129 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions.
