Manchester United are reportedly angry with their manager Erik ten Hag for disclosing details of the club’s meeting with him.
We reported earlier that Ten Hag had gone to Ibiza to enjoy some time out after a gruelling campaign with Manchester United.
Before his Ibiza trip, the 56-year-old’s future at the Old Trafford outfit was under intense scrutiny after a largely disappointed 2023-24 campaign.
United explored possible replacement options for the Dutchman and were ready to part ways with him should they find a better hand, as per reports.
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who left his role at Bayern Munich on mutual consent, was in the running to replace the 2023-24 FA Cup winner. Manchester United reportedly met with Tuchel but could not broker an agreement. Other top managers were also reportedly in the running to take over the dugout at Old Trafford. However, in a sudden twist of events, the club finally decided to settle with Ten Hag.
A few hours after reports of Manchester United’s decision on his future surfaced, footage of the former Ajax boss having a nice time with his wife Bianca in Ibiza swept social media.
He was seen relaxing and supping drink at the recreational spot and donning a face cap boldly written, ‘boss.’
It was believed the Dutch tactician was relishing the joy of keeping his job with his Ibiza vacation. However, he later revealed otherwise.
Speaking in an interview after the luxury trip, Ten Hag revealed Manchester United officials came to him in Ibiza to tell him that they had decided to continue with him as the club’s manager.
In his words, United did not even allow him to enjoy his vacation but showed up right in Ibiza for talks on contract renewal plans.
“They (Manchester United) threw a spanner in the works because then, out of nowhere, they suddenly showed up right on our doorstep,” he said.
When prised further whether the club’s official actually showed up on his doorstep he responded in the affirmative.
“Yes. They showed up at my place because they wanted to continue with me,” he said.
Now, according to The Sun, Manchester United officials are angry with the Dutchman for disclosing how the contract renewal talks progressed.
The report adds the club are ready for a new three-year contract for the Dutchman but it is not a clean slate yet following his tell-all interview.

When asked whether he was aware of the club’s meeting with Thomas Tuchel to replace him, ten Hag said, ‘yes.’ However, he added the club did not tell him about that but he knew since the report was everywhere.
Going further he seemed to take a swipe at Thomas Tuchel. According to him, Thomas Tuchel would not have talked with United by the coaching standards in the Netherlands as he was still Man United’s manager. He however excused the former Chelsea manager citing differences in rules across different leagues.
“You are not even allowed to talk to another club the moment the trainer is an incumbent”, he said.
“Well, the rules are a little different, and they did that, but in the end, they came to the conclusion that they had the best trainer.”
United finally settled for Erik ten Hag after a lengthy review and exploring possible replacement options. The Dutchman is now expected to sign a new contract with the club. However, it is yet unclear whether the tell-all interview, which has not sit well with the United’s hierarchy, can twist his fate at the club.
