Olympique Lyonnais know as Lyon FC is a French club formed by Lyon Olympique Universitaire in the year 1896 initially as Racing Club de Lyon but formed it football department in 1899 it was based in Lyon in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes but was not nationally recognized until 1950, nicknamed Les Gones (The Kids) and its home ground is the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, but the naming right was sold and renamed “Groupama Stadium” with a capacity of 59,186.

The team wears a combination of white, blue, and red for its home games, while a dark shade of blue/black is used as their away jersey.

In 1951 the club came into prominence when it won the second division championship and moved to the first division, but it was a short-lived experience as they were relegated back to the second division.

The team had also participated in the UEFA Champions League twelve times with their best achievement coming in 2009/10 when they got to the semifinals of the tournament for the first time.

On Saturday, August 15, 2020, Lyon defeated English side Man City 3-1 to advance through to the semifinal of the Champions League and book a date with German Champions Bayern Munich.

However, this year’s semifinal will see two French clubs (PSG and Lyon) and German clubs (RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich) meeting each other for the first time since 2012/13 different countries were in the semifinals.
