    Erling Haaland

Europe’s hottest striker and goal machine, Haaland scored 56 goals and provided 9 assists across all competitions.

He won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup, in a record-breaking season last term, as he became the player with the most goals scored in a single Premier League season, with 36 goals.

Erling Haaland was devastating in front of goal, producing magical scenes that helped Manchester City achieve unprecedented success last season.

Probable winner of the 2023 Ballon d’Or award:

It is a tight one, as Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland both achieved monstrous feats last season.

The allure of the FIFA World Cup might give Messi an edge, but Haaland also won the treble with Manchester City.

Recall in 2010, that despite reaching the final of the 2010 World Cup with Netherlands, Wesley Sneijder didn’t win the Ballon d’Or, in what many have over the years termed to be a controversial award.

Also, Cristiano Ronaldo edged Manuel Neuer to win the Ballon d’Or, despite the German goalkeeper winning the World Cup.

Anyway, if the “individuality” of the award is what France Football does take into cognizance, then Erling Haaland should be going home with the award, given his contributions to Manchester City.

He also helped Manchester City win the treble; Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League, assisting the Citizens to become the second English club to win the treble.

The Etihad club also won the UEFA Champions League title for the first time in their history, and this can be attributed to the impact of Erling Haaland.

Before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, any player who played a leading role for his nation at the Mundial always went home with the gong.

However, the 2010 Ballon d’Or distorted history and that precedence was also witnessed in the 2014 edition.

In that case, Erling Haaland looks like the probable winner of the 2023 Ballon d’Or award for 2023, given his immense contributions.

Meanwhile, that is not to undermine the World Cup success of Argentine great Lionel Messi.
