Xavi has apologized for statements he made regarding former teammate Dani Alves following the right back’s imprisonment.
Alves was detained last week on suspicion of sexual assault following allegations made against the defender over an event that occurred at the end of 2022 in a Barcelona nightclub.
Following his arrest, the Mexican team Pumas fired the 39-year-old, who is now being held in a prison outside of the city.
He has denied any wrongdoing and will probably file an appeal to be released on bail, but he might spend a few weeks or possibly months in Brians 1 prison.
Barca manager Xavi, who played on the same fantastic team as Alves, expressed his “shock” before their matchup with Getafe.
He continued by saying that the Brazilian felt “extremely horrible” and that it was a matter of justice, which didn’t sit well with the public and drew criticism.
After the game, Xavi apologized for his earlier remarks after detractors pointed out that the manager had completely ignored the victim, discrediting her story.
“What I said about Alves was misinterpreted, perhaps I was not strong enough,” the Barca manager said.
“I ignored the victim, all these acts must be condemned, whether Dani or anyone else does it. I apologise, it was unfortunate.”
“It is a very tough subject, but I forgot to talk about the victims. All these types of acts must be condemned, both in gender violence and in rapes.”
Xavi and Alves won three Champions League trophies, three Copa del Rey championships, and five La Liga championships while they were teammates at the Camp Nou.
Alves then made 17 appearances while playing for Xavi’s team in 2021, when he was 38 years old, before moving to the Mexican team Pumas, which he has since departed.
Pedri’s goal in the 35th minute gave Barca a 1-0 victory in their match on Sunday, continuing their good run.
The Catalan giants are presently three points ahead of Real Madrid in the La Liga standings. They recently defeated Los Blancos 3-1 to win the Supercopa in Saudi Arabia.
What did Xavi Say About Dani Alves’s Arrest?
Xavi acknowledged that he was in a “state of shock” following the arrest and incarceration of his former teammate Dani Alves on suspicion of sexual assault.
The long-serving Brazil international was taken into custody in Catalonia on Friday due to a complaint filed against him in December 2022 while he was visiting a nightclub in Barcelona.
Before the Ciutat de la Justicia decided that the former Barcelona full-back should be imprisoned without bond while investigations are ongoing, Alves was taken to the Mossos d’Esquadra de Les Corts police station.
His contract, which was set to expire in the summer of 2023, was terminated by his former employers, Mexican team Pumas, in response.
Alves and current Blaugrana coach Xavi had a successful playing career together, winning five La Liga championships, three Champions League trophies, and three Copa del Rey crowns among other honors.
The two reconnected when the seasoned fullback returned to Barcelona in November 2021, only days after Xavi took over as manager. Alves played in 17 games for Barcelona before leaving for Liga MX.
As he reacted to the news on Saturday, Xavi was astounded to learn about the Alves arrest.
“It’s difficult to comment on a situation like this,” the Blaugrana boss said. “I am surprised, shocked, in a state of shock. It’s a question of justice. Justice will rule whatever it is. I feel very bad for Dani. I’m in a state of shock about how he is with us.”
Alves who however denied the allegations, said that: “Yes, I was in that place, with more people, enjoying myself. And people who know me know that I love to dance. I was dancing and enjoying myself without invading the space of others.”
“I don’t know who that lady is. You arrive at a bathroom and you don’t have to ask who’s there. I have never invaded anyone’s space. How am I going to do it with a woman or a girl? No, for God’s sake.”
What Did Dani Alves Do?
