‘Without them, it would not have been possible’, Paulo Dybala lauds teammates and coaches after winning Serie A MVP award

Juventus winger, Paulo Dybala has expressed appreciation to his teammates and coaches for their efforts after emerging as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2019-20 Serie A season.

The Argentine took to his Twitter page to credit them for the award, saying without them, it wouldn’t have been possible for him to win it.

“I wanted to thank my coaches and teammates for this award, without them it would not have been possible. And thanks also to all of you. Thank you @A league,” he tweeted.

Dybala, who won the MVP award after the League announced their ranking of the best players of 2019-20 played 33, scored 11 goals, created 11 assists for the Bianconerri to win their 9th successive Scudetto ahead of Inter Milan that finished the season adrift them with three points.

Although the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ciro Immobile, Papu Gomez had a fantastic season with Juve, Lazio, and Atalanta respectively, the Serie A revealed their parameters for choosing the winner of the award, citing official statistics of the league.

Explaining the criteria for picking the Argentine who almost left Juve in January, CEO of Serie A Luigi De Siervo said: “The performance measurement is based on the official stats of Lega Serie A, which represents the objective scientific criterion of the best of this season.

“We managed to conclude with great determination, overcoming infinite difficulties. It was an anomalous year, with a compressed ending, but these players managed to demonstrate their talent in all the matches played, illuminating our competition with great performances.

“Our heartfelt thanks go to them and all the other athletes for their professionalism, commitment and sacrifices.”

Young Serie A Player of the Season goes to Juve’s new boy Dejan Kulusevski

Meanwhile, Juventus’ new signing, Dejan Kulusevski also won the Young Serie A Player of the Season award.

The 20-year-old had a stellar season with Parma before he was signed by the champions.

Reacting to the announcement, the 20-year-old admitted that Parma will ‘always have a place in his heart.

The Swedish, who also said a season at the Ennio Tardini feels like 10 years scored ten goals and created nine assists in his 36 Serie A matches with the Gialloblu. He was signed by champions Juventus in January and re-loaned to Parma till the end of the season.

Speaking with Gazzetta di Parma on his stay with the Crociati, the 20-year-old, who was emotional said his teammates always helped him and the coach continues to play him even when he made mistakes. He also stated that the whole environment assisted him to do well.

“I immediately fell in love [with Parma], true love at first sight. I like everything about this city. The tranquillity and the fact that it’s human-sized.

“I really like it when the fans stop me on the street, and I talk to them about Parma and my performances. We talk about the beautiful city.”

Apart from Dybala and Kulusevski carting home awards, the Serie A highest goalscorer, Ciro Immobile, who reached the 36-goal marked of Gonzalo Higuain, which is the league’s record was named the Best Forward of the Season, while Alejandro Gomez was rewarded for his effort with Atalanta as the Best Midfielder of the Season.

Inter Milan’s centre back, Stefan de Vrij emerged Best Defender of the Season, while Best Goalkeeper of the Season award was won by Juventus goaltender, Wojciech Szczesny.

One notable name missing from the award is five times world footballer of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the best player of the year on his debut season in the Italian top flight.

It could be declared a good season for the Portuguese who also scored 31 goals in the top flight this season as well.
