Arsenal defeated Leicester City by a lone goal on Saturday and that elevated their points differential with Manchester City to five (5) points.

Marinelli’s goal gave Arsenal the win

Gabriel Martinelli scored in the 46th minute to give Arsenal the victory against The Foxes at the King Power Stadium. 

That victory meant that Arsenal have now won eighteen (18) games this season in the Premier League. Martinelli put the ball beyond Danny Ward following a through-ball put to his path by Leandro Trossard.

The win involving Leicester City and Arsenal had a lot of questionable and contentious officiating calls by the match officials in the game.

Controversial calls that went against Arsenal in the game

Early on in the game, Leandro Trossard fired an amazing strike that was ruled out after VAR adjudged Ben White culpable for a foul on Danny Ward from the resultant corner that led to the goal. 

Minutes later, The foxes almost conceded a penalty as Australia defender Harry Souttar pulled Bukayo Saka inside the six-yard box. The occurrence was reviewed by VAR but Arsenal were denied a penalty after the check was conducted. 

Brendan Roger’s side couldn’t give the Gunners much trouble as they were toothless in attack and Arsenal ultimately went away with the three points.

Arsenal went five points clear but the Cityzens cut it to two

By virtue of that victory recorded at the King Power Stadium, Arsenal went five (5) points ahead of Manchester City with a game in hand but it was cut short after Pep Guardiola’s side demolished The Cherries at their vitality ground. 

Nevertheless, in spite of the hard fought win, things got heated up between some players of the current league leaders. 

According to reports, Gabriel Meghalese and William Saliba went toe-to-toe with each other as they were involved in an heated exchange after the expiration of the game against Leicester City.

It still beats many imaginations on what the conversation was. Although, it’s unlikely that the situation will be one to fret fans of Arsenal after they recorded their 10th clean sheet of the Premier League season. 

Arsenal are on their way to winning their first league title since 2003/04 and they would want to leave no stone unturned as they push to reclaim the throne of English football. 

The season is still far from ending and Arsenal have challengers roaring and breathing down their neck which means they definitely have to stay consistent as the season progresses. 

Mikel Arteta earlier this season spoke about the reason why both central defenders have flourished this season and they wouldn’t want to lose that midas touch which Gabriel and Saliba have possessed this season.

The gaffer of Arsenal speaking in October, 2022 before their clash with Liverpool earlier this season had great remarks for the partnership of Gabriel Meghalese and William Saliba.

Arteta said: “I don’t see central defenders as individuals. They are always partnerships and there has to be an element of chemistry, understanding and complementing each other, and those two maximize each other’s qualities in a really positive way.

“Gabriel was coming from France, still raw physically, he wasn’t developed, he wasn’t in the muscular tone that obviously we wanted. But he has been really disciplined and working really hard to improve that because he understands the physicality in this league is really demanding. You see him physically and everyone notices the change.”

Hopefully, it was just a minor misunderstanding between both players as fans of the Gunners would want, so that they can continue to produce excellent results for the North London side.
