Wesley Fofana has asked not to be included in Leicester City’s matchday three squad amid his desire to join Chelsea who have been pushing for his signature.
Thus, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is planning to keep him out of his matchday squad to face Southampton on Saturday.
Rodgers stated on Thursday that he would be ready to leave Fofana out of his squad if Chelsea’s continuous pursuit of the 21-year-old defender had an adverse effect on him.
Two bids from Chelsea for the French defender fell short of Leicester’s asking price.
Although a third offer is not believed to be imminent, Rodgers now appears prepared to leave Fofana out of his squad for the match against Southampton because of the uncertainty surrounding his future with the team.
Fofana is interested in moving to Stamford Bridge, as we previously reported, but Leicester appear set to hold him for at least another year and will only transfer him to Chelsea under their terms.
With only five years remaining on his deal, which he just signed in March, Leicester City’s asking price which is beloved to around £80 million could be a record-breaking offer for a defensive player.
When asked if he would be willing to leave Fofana out of his lineup to face Southampton during his news conference on Thursday, Rodgers responded, “Yes, 100 percent.
“If the players aren’t totally focused and committed to the club and being here, or for whatever reason just aren’t in the right mindset, that won’t help us.
“We have to ensure everyone is really focused in order for us to play the best game we can. I will always assess that after the sessions.”
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Frenchman is reportedly desperate to leave and considers a move to Chelsea to be a “dream move.”
Personal terms have been established for some time, and the 21-year-old is awaiting Thomas Tuchel’s team to reach an agreement with Leicester City.
The league’s top spenders this summer have been Chelsea, who acquired an outstanding youngster Cesare Casadei for £12.6 million on Saturday, August 19, 2022.
He joins other recent arrivals Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, and Kalidou Koulibaly.
Regarding Leicester, they have only added one player, Alex Smithies, who will serve as their backup goalkeeper.
Wesley Fofana
Wesley Fofana, a French professional football player who now plays as a defender for Premier League team Leicester City, was born on December 17, 2000.
Fofana was born in France’s Bouches-du-Rhône region in Marseille. His mother is French and his father is Ivorian. He was one of six children and began playing football with Repos Vitrolles at the age of six.
Fofana practices Islam. He was replaced at the hour mark of Leicester’s 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on April 22, 2021, while Fofana was fasting for the month-long Islamic fast of Ramadan.
The following game, against Crystal Palace, was stopped after 30 minutes so Fofana and Cheikhou Kouyaté could drink some liquids to break their Ramadan fast.
Why Does Fofana Wants to Leave Leicester City?
Although the athlete hasn’t publicly expressed his desire to go, there are several things that could persuade him. The Foxes’ season-opening underwhelming performance is the first of these.
The promising young center-back might be thinking about moving to better lands after a stalemate at Brentford and a dismantling at the hands of Arsenal.
The World Cup in November could also have an impact on his choices. The Frenchman is yet to receive a national team cap, so if he wants to travel to Qatar, he must demonstrate a higher level of performance.
The only way to unseat players like Presnel Kimpembe and William Saliba is to join Chelsea and put on strong Champions League performances.
How Will Fofana Fit Into the Chelsea Team?
As he works to rebuild his defense, Thomas Tuchel has made Fofana one of his key priorities. At the end of the previous season, the German witnessed the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger from Stamford Bridge in favor of the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
He is currently hoping to add Fofana, who is regarded as one of the greatest young defenders in the Premier League, to further expand his options in the backline. The Frenchman only recently deleted all references to the Foxes from his social media pages, despite only signing a new long-term contract with the team in March.
That occurred amid rumors that Chelsea was planning a high-profile move for the center-back. The 21-year-old is not expected to be sold by Leicester, despite Chelsea reportedly planning an offer of up to £80 million.
Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, and Cesar Azpilicueta make up Chelsea’s defensive back three. Tuchel, however, is still looking to expand his defensive options.
