Wayne Rooney, a Manchester United legend, has replied to Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘jealous’ remarks on Instagram.

After the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Leicester City over the weekend, Rooney released a blistering criticism of the forward on Monday.

At his most recent news conference, the Derby County manager answered his old teammate by declaring that, aside from Lionel Messi, there is no player on the earth who isn’t envious of Ronaldo.

“You’d have to say no at the moment,” Rooney remarked on Sky Sports Monday Night Football when questioned if signing experienced Ronaldo, 37, had worked for United.

He continued “I think he’s scored goals, he’s scored important goals in the Champions League early on in the season. He scored the hat-trick against Tottenham. But I think if you look to the future of the club you would have to go with younger, hungry players to do the best to lift Manchester United over these next two, three years.”

Rooney published an Instagram picture of himself in the Sky studio with Jamie Carragher and host broadcaster Dave Jones on Wednesday. Later that day, Ronaldo commented something along the lines of “two jealous.”

Ronaldo seized the opportunity to respond by writing: ‘Two Jealous’ in a comment on the post.

During his latest Derby County news conference, Wayne Rooney was quizzed about his old teammate’s comment, to which he answered.

“I’d say there’s not a football player on the planet who isn’t jealous of Cristiano Ronaldo. The career he’s had, the trophies he’s won, the money he’s earned. The six-pack, his body,’ he added with a wry smile. ‘I think every player bar Lionel Messi is jealous of Cristiano.”

Since his return to United in the summer, Ronaldo has scored 18 goals and is the club’s highest scorer this season.

Other analysts and fans, on the other hand, have condemned him, claiming that his presence is impeding the team’s improvement and effectiveness.
