Burnley manager and former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has broken his long-held silence on rumors linking him to the vacant managerial job at Chelsea.
The fast-rising Belgian football manager emerged as a shock candidate lined up among others for Chelsea job.
Kompany shot himself into the top cadre of young promising managers after he led Burnley to Premier League promotion just months after taking over from current Everton boss Sean Dyche.
The former Manchester defender has been tipped by his former boss Pep Guardiola for a big managerial shot in the nearest future after his remarkable spell with the Clarets in Championships.
Just weeks after Pep Guardiola’s comment on his former player, Vincent Kompany emerged a shock candidate in Chelsea’s shortlist for a new manager.
Lining up against big-name coaches such as Julian Nagelsmann, Jose Mourinho, Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, the Burnley boss was rumoured as a possible replacement for Graham Potter at the Blues’ dugout.
A move from Burnley to Chelsea would have been a great leap in Vincent Kompany’s burgeoning coaching career in football.
After completely turning Burnley into the strongest Championships side this season with a gaping lead on top of the EFL table, becoming the Blues’ new manager would have been a good reward for a hardworking blacksmith who knows his onions at the dugout.
At the Championships award where he was awarded the EFL manager of the year for his outstanding performance with Burnley, he was grilled by shrewd journalist about the rumors linking him to Chelsea job.
When asked about his interest and the prospect of taking over as new manager at Stamford Bridge, Vincent Kompany bluntly wave away the question. He replied;
“Sorry, but that’s a “lost” question. I always feel a little sorry for the journalist who asks the question, because you won’t get any answer in return.
“Before the start of this season I made a commitment not to stir up speculation about my future. No, I’m not going to talk about it,” he added.
While Kompany seemed to downplay rumors of Chelsea link, he has remained on the spotlights due to his exceptional outing with Burnley in the current EFL campaign.
With more matches to wrap up the season, Vincent Kompany has already secured Premier League promotion for Burnley after raking in a record 92 points from 43 matches for the Clarets.
However, Futballnews understands Mauricio Pochettino is now a top favorite to take over as Chelsea new manager after the withdrawal of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique.
The former Tottenham boss is closing in on a deal with the Blues and negotiations between him and the club’s hierachy are on the fast lane.
Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany has also been linked to Tottenham job but Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly closing in on taking over as new manager at the other side of London.
It is more likely Vincent Kompany will continue on his role as Burnley manager next season in the Premier League as things stand.
