Atletico Madrid will celebrate their 120th anniversary as a club-side On April 26th and Nike has provided them a special kit for the event.
This special kit is inspired by and worn by the first Atlético de Madrid players in the club’s history, and it will be worn against Mallorca on Wednesday.
On 26th of April 1903, a group of Basque students living in Madrid met together and found the club we refer to as Atletico Madrid today.
At the time they wore blue and white and were a branch of Athletic Club. They later adopted colors of the Biscayan team.
Well, to celebrate their club’s 120th anniversary in style, Nike have created somewhat to the design the wore during the time of creation which is blue and white and with the original club crest on the chest.
The jersey is Nike’s current template but the red and white that is synonymous with the club is left out as it was not part of the jersey not until 1911.
Before they adopted the red and white, the club played with the Blue and White and was later reintroduced in a 50/50 spilt in the body.
The sleeves however, was in blue color while the collar and cuffs of the jersey remained white.
The jersey’s tone was tweaked by the WhaleFin.com sponsor slightly to fit in with the aesthetics of the overall design, while the Swoosh branding appears in white.
Atletico Madrid will face Mallorca on Wednesday at the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium, Madrid just as the first Atleti players did in their historic debut.
This new kits will be available from 10am on Tuesday 25 April in the club’s physical shops in the Community of Madrid and on their online store.

Why is Atletico Madrid Wearing A Blue And White Anniversary Kit?
There’s just one reason behind the team wearing this special edition jersey and comes from the club’s founders.
26th of April 2023 marks their 120th Anniversary as a club and it also depicts when they were created.
Initially, students from the Basque country that teamed up to establish the team, did it as a subdivision of Athletic Club, otherwise known as Bilbao.
They later on adopted the colours of their beloved Basque side, which back then were blue and white.
Other elements of Atletico Madrid’s early kits reference Athletic Bilbao as well.
“Our first crest – valid until 1917 – was made up of a belt surrounding a football,” Atletico Madrid said on their website. “On which the initials of Athletic Club could be read intertwined.”
Antoine Griezmann, Alvaro Morata, and Memphis Depay are set to line up in the match-up against Mallorca on Wednesday in their original blue and white, but who will triumph at Wanda Metropolitano?
