Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen has been included in the 2023/2024 German Bundesliga Team Of The Season.
The Nigeria international was quick to adapt to life in Germany after he joined Leverkusen from Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise.
However, Boniface played a pivotal role as Bayer Leverkusen won the German Bundesliga title for the first time in the club’s history.
The Super Eagles striker missed several Bundesliga games due to an injury he sustained during Nigeria’s preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, but he was favored among the team of the season.
Boniface has registered eleven goals from twenty appearances in the German League, dishing out nine assists.
Bayer Leverkusen won fifteen of the twenty games Boniface participated in this season.
The Team of the Season contained six Bayer Leverkusen players namely Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah, Alejandro Grimaldo, Granit Xhaka, Florian Wirtz, and Boniface.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and England captain Harry Kane, and Germany national team player Jamal Musiala are the Bayern Munich representatives.
Waldemar Anton (VfB Stuttgart), Serhou Guirassy (VfB Stuttgart), and Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund) are the other players named in the Best XI.
Harry Kane leads the attack and he is flanked by African duo Boniface and Guirassy in a 4-3-3 formation.
German Bundesliga Team Of The Season
Goalkeeper
Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund)
According to the stats, the Dortmund goalkeeper has enjoyed a great 2023/24 season, he has stopped most of the shots he faced to prevent more opposing strikes than any other Bundesliga goalkeeper by some distance.
Defenders
Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)
The right wing-back has repeatedly charged behind opposition defenses to spearhead attacks.
He has the second most sprints of the Bundesliga season and has helped his side’s title pursuit with his most prolific season yet for goal involvement.
Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen)
Leverkusen’s defenders have organized the title-winning backline and they have been a strong feature of the league’s toughest defense.
Tah is very confident on the ball too, hitting a higher distribution of passes to a team-mate than any other Bundesliga player, while he has also added four goals to his name.
Waldemar Anton (VfB Stuttgart)
The centre-back has been extremely good for Stuttgart this season. He has run more than any of his team-mates, and it is safe to say he might be handed a spot in the German nation team for the Euro 2024.
Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen)
The left-back’s good crosses have seen him become the Bundesliga’s top assist provider, and he is not afraid to find the net himself either.
His strong free-kicks and long-range efforts have seen him record more goal involvements than any other Leverkusen players in the Bundesliga.
Midfielders
Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich)
He has been great for Bayern Munich this season. The midfielder’s goal threat in the Bundesliga has made him one of the top players at Bayern in terms of goal involvement.
Musiala has mesmerized fans this season with his incredible dribbling ability.
Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen)
Xhaka has been superb for Leverkusen this season, having comfortably had more touches on the ball than any other Bundesliga player, and has the best passing rate in the League.
The midfield composer has also wrapped more ground than anyone else and boasts the best performance under opposition intense pressure.
Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen)
The playmaker’s ability keeps on surprising with his impressive dribbles and near-impossible passes.
Wirtz has set a new personal best this campaign for goals and assists. He scored a memorable hat-trick as Leverkusen sealed their historic first title against Werder Bremen and is one of the leading assist providers in the Bundesliga.
Attackers
Serhou Guirassy (VfB Stuttgart)
Serhou has been impressive, although, he may not be able to quite match the strange pace of Harry Kane. Guirassy is the proud bearer of a new Stuttgart scoring record and boasts the best shooting conversion rate in the Bundesliga.
Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
The former Tottenham striker has smashed numerous goals, securing the top scorer’s honor and pursuing Robert Lewandowski’s record.
Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen)
Leverkusen’s lead striker would have made an even bigger splash this season if he hadn’t been injured in preparing for the AFCON. He remains Leverkusen’s top joint scorer despite missing 11 matches due to injury.
