Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou appears to be oozing optimism for the 2024/25 football season.
Postecoglou has claimed that he often experiences success in his second season at clubs he previously managed.
Tottenham Hotspur Gaffer Ange Postecoglou Exudes Confidence For The New Season
Speaking during an interview with Sky Sports ahead of Spurs’ 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Monday, August 19, 2024, Ange Postecoglou said:
“Usually in my second season, I win things. That’s the whole idea. The first year is about establishing principles and creating a foundation.
“Hopefully the second year is about going on to win things. Of course, it’s easier said than done, particularly in the Premier League and the competitions we’re in.”
Tottenham Hotspur began the new league campaign with a draw at the King Power Stadium, as they couldn’t secure all three points against Leicester City despite going ahead in the 29th minute through a header from Pedro Porro.
Vardy equalized for the Foxes 3 minutes before the hour mark, condemning Ange Postecoglou’s side to the 12th spot on the Premier League table.
Spurs have made 5 signings thus far this summer, acquiring the services of Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall and Min-hyeok Yang.
Summer signing Solanke led the attack for Tottenham Hotspur against Steve Cooper’s side and he had an impressive debut despite not scoring.
The Lilywhites finished in 5th position in the 2023/24 season, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, having ended the campaign with 66 points, 2 points behind 4th-placed Aston Villa (68).
Ange Postecoglou’s Achievements In His Second Season At His Former Clubs
Moreover, Postecoglu’s comments on achieving success in his second season at his former teams are backed up by his recent records.
The Australian won the J League title with Yokohama F Marinos in his second season handling the side (2019), and he won successive league titles in his two seasons at Scottish giants Celtic before joining Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023.
Alongside the Scottish Premiership, Ange Postecoglou also claimed the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup in his final season with Celtic.
It will be fascinating to see if Postecoglou can guide Tottenham Hotspur to silverware for the first time since 2008 when they won the English Football League Cup under Spanish tactician Juande Ramos.
They still enjoy the services of stars like; Heung-min Son, James Maddison, and Cristian Romero, and it will be fascinating to see how they fare in the 2024/25 season.
Spurs return to action on Saturday, August 24, 2024, battling Everton at their elegant Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Realistically, their targets will likely be claiming any domestic cup title or possibly winning the UEFA Europa League, although they will have to face intense competition from teams like Manchester United, Real Sociedad, and AS Roma amongst others.
The English Premier League looks far above their reach, although anything is possible in the round leather game called football.
Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Aston Villa remain huge contenders for the league crown, and winning the prize will be a herculean task for Spurs.
