Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose in the second half of France’s 1-0 victory over Austria in Dusseldorf on Monday, June 17, 2024.
Mbappe went down in the dying embers of the affair after his face caught the shoulder of Austrian defender Kevin Danso.
Blood began gushing from the Real Madrid man’s nose and that made the fans worried about the health status of the superstar.
Was Kylian Mbappe Substituted After He Suffered A Broken Nose?
Kylian Mbappe was subsequently substituted in the 90th minute of the encounter, as he was withdrawn for veteran forward Olivier Giroud.
Before his departure, Mbappe was shown a yellow card by referee Jesus Gil, and the decision left fans stunned.
Anyway, following the game, reports from French media outlet, L’Equipe revealed that Kylian Mbappe “must be operated on at the University Hospital of Düsseldorf”.
France boss Didier Deschamps also told TF1 that the footballer “has probably broken his nose” in a presser after the game.
Mbappe left the hospital just a few hours after the game where it was confirmed that he broke his nose, however, he will not undergo surgery despite earlier indications.
French Football Federation Statement On Kylian Mbappe’s Broken Nose
The French Football Federation also put out a lengthy statement after the game and in the statement they revealed that a mask will be made for Kylian Mbappe so that he “can prepare for his return to the competition after a period dedicated to treatment”.
They wrote: “Kylian Mbappé returns to the base camp of the French national team”.
“Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the second part of the Austria-France held this Monday in Düsseldorf.”
In the statement shared by the FFF, they also informed fans that the 25-year-old will get adequate treatment in the coming days.
The French Football Federation wrote: “The captain of France was treated first by the medical staff and Dr. Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a nose fracture.
“Mbappé will receive treatment in the next few days, but he will not undergo surgery in the immediate future”.
Meanwhile, reports emerging on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, are also claiming that Kylian Mbappe will miss France’s remaining group stage matches due to the injury.
Has Mbappe Ever Scored At The European Championship?
Kylian Mbappe is yet to score in the European Championship since he began featuring in the competition, first representing France in the 2020 edition played in 2021.
Mbappe could have penned his name on the score sheet in the 55th minute, however, he shockingly fluffed his lines after going one-on-one with Austrian goalkeeper, Patrick Pentz.
The Frenchman, whose dream move to Real Madrid was confirmed on June 3, 2024, has made 80 appearances for France, scoring 47 goals and providing 34 assists.
Kylian Mbappe has made 368 club appearances thus far in his career, scoring 283 goals and providing 124 assists in all competitions.
He will be hoping to captain Les Blues to the European Championship title – the only trophy eluding him internationally.
France also last won the trophy in 2000 and it will be a massive honor for the European nation.
