UEFA Releases Champions League Awards Nominees, Check Which Players Made the Cut

UEFA have on Wednesday the 16th of September released the shortlist for the 2019/20 Champions League awards.

Following a lengthy Champions League campaign due to the Corona Virus pandemic, the UEFA Champions League concluded in August for the first time since its existence.

The finals saw first-timers Paris Saint-Germain lock horns with six times winner Bayern Munich, with the Germans emerging victorious thanks to a lone goal from Kingsley Coman.

UEFA have now released their award nominees for the 2019/20 CL campaign with champions Bayern Munich and Runners-up Paris Saint-Germain dominating the shortlist. Atlético de Madrid and Manchester City the only other clubs with players represented.

The players were selected by a jury comprising of the coaches of the 32 clubs in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League campaign although coaches were not allowed to vote for players from their own teams, 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group, and one from every UEFA member association.

The jury is allowed to choose their top three players in each position, with the first receiving five points, the second three, and the third one.

The three players with the most points in each category make up the final UEFA awards nominees list.

Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas (Paris Saint-Germain), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Jan Oblak (Atlético de Madrid)

Defenders: David Alaba (Bayern Munich), Alphonso Davies (Bayern), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern)

Midfielders: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Thomas Müller (Bayern Munich), Thiago Alcántara (Bayern)

Forwards: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain), Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain)

Last season, Liverpool Shot-stopper Alisson Becker was voted Goalkeeper of the year, with Virgil van Dijk the Defender of the year, and the Barcelona duo of Frenkie de Jong and Lionel Messi won the Midfielder and Forward of the year respectively.
