Trent Alexander-Arnold might not be fully available for England in the forthcoming European Championship (Euro 2020) after he received a knock in a friendly match between England and Austria on Wednesday, June 2.

The 22-year-old English right-back was helped out of the pitch a few minutes to the end of the friendly game which ended 1-0 in favor of England. Bukayo Saka was the goalscorer in the friendly game which means that the 19-year-old Arsenal’s youngster used the friendly game to score his first international goal.

At the end of the friendly game, the head coach of the team, Gareth Southgate, said he could not ascertain the extent of Trent’s injury. He revealed that the situation of the Liverpool defender would be accessed within 48 hours before a decision could be reached.

Southgate said: “We’ve got to see, it’s obviously not a good sign that he’s had to walk off the pitch, and he was in some discomfort.”

The friendly match between England and Austria was part of England’s preparation for the forthcoming European Championship which will start on June 11, 2021.

England will play most of their games in the tournament at the Wembley Stadium in London, hence, the team decided to camp at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium.

Southgate and his 26-man team will play their second friendly at the Riverside Stadium against Romania’s national football team on Sunday, June 7 before they will end their preparation for the competition.

Before the announcement of England’s 26-man team for the Euro 2020, it was rumored that Trent Alexander-Arnold might not make the list despite being the best right-back England currently has.

After a series of speculations, coach Gareth Southgate decided to include him among the right-backs he planned to take to the European Championship.

When it was announced that Trent Alexander-Arnold made Southgate’s 26-man list, the 22-year-old Liverpool star took to his Twitter page to write: “Always believe in yourself. Silence the doubters”.

As it stands, if the medical team of the England national team confirms that the injury the defender sustain in the friendly game on Wednesday is severe, Trent Alexander-Arnold might be dropped from Southgate’s 26-man squad.

Though there are other right-backs in the squad that will replace him, England will greatly miss the productivity of the 22-year-old right-back who scored 2 goals and provided 7 assists in 36 Premier League games for Liverpool in the just concluded 2020-2021 season.
