Speculations on who will win the 2024-25 Premier League title were right underway long before the season began.
Defending champions Manchester City are likely to lead the race again with runners-up Arsenal also in the fray.
While it is still way too early in the season to start making any conclusion, it isn’t unusual for us to see Premier League teams start as they mean to carry on. It would take nothing short of a miracle for some teams to end the season better than they have started.
That being said, team positions during the first few games into the campaign have proven to be a facade in some instances. The Premier League has been known for its multiple twists as the season wears on.
Regardless, few names always pop up whenever we predict people that could end up with the Premier League title come May 2025. In this article, we will be looking at some of these teams, their chances and what could possibly hinder them from winning the prized trophy.
Manchester City
In these types of discussions, you wouldn’t look beyond the Pep Guardiola team. Afterall, no team has won the trophy in the last four years besides them.
They are the heavy favourites to bag the silverware again by May 2025 and have started considerably well. The Premier League dominoes are unbeaten in six league games, winning four, drawing two games and currently second in the standings behind Arne Slot’s Liverpool.
What could probably serve as a limiting factor to the Guardiola team is their lack of attacking threats besides Erling Haaland after letting Julian Alvarez leave for Atletico Madrid over the summer.
The Norwegian has scored ten of Manchester City’s 14 Premier League goals this season. The worry for Pep would be where the goals would come from if Haaland gets injured.
Arsenal 2024-25 Premier League title chances
Premier League runner-ups for the past two seasons Arsenal have made themselves a team to consider in this debate in recent times.
Mikel Arteta’s men have come close to ending Arsenal’s two decades wait for the Premier League title in the past two seasons. On both occasions, they have been pipped to the title by Manchester City. Arteta would be hoping for a difference in fortune for his team this season.
However, if Arsenal are to snatch the Premier League from Manchester City’s iron grip, they will need to address their discipline issues. Two players Leonardo Trossard and Declan Rice have already received red cards this season for the same reason of kicking the ball after the referee’s whistle. Overall, the Gunners have picked up 17 yellow cards with just a few games into the season.
Liverpool
The Reds have made a sensational start to life under Arne Slot, recording just a loss in all competitions this season.
They currently sit atop the league standings and it will require something special to knock them off.
However, their major weakness is a lack of firepower in the midfield. Out of their 12 goals scored in the league so far, just two have been contributed by a midfielder – Dominik Szoboszlai. Arne Slot would have to get more out of his midfield in terms of the number if they are to maintain their great start to the season.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur haven’t looked a different team under Ange Postecoglou than they did before him. There have been no noteworthy changes since the Aussie bloke joined the club as a manager.
There would need to be massive changes if they were to become unlikely Premier League champions by the end of the season. The most important thing is making better use of their ball possessions.
Even with their 62.9% ball dominance, second to only Manchester City, they have managed just three wins in the league.
Chelsea
There has been some sort of revival in form for The Blues since Enzo Maresca took over.
Four wins in six Premier League games has been a massive improvement from the team’s performance last season. While they could be ruled out of the title race based on recent deadlocks, they are genuine contenders should they maintain their current form.
Meanwhile, keeping a clean sheet has been a major thorn in Enzo Maresca’s side. Despite seemingly hoarding goalkeepers, the Blues haven’t quite got things right in that position yet. Robert Sanchez has been between the sticks in every game so far, but he’s looked far from convincing.
Conceding twice against both Brighton and Wolverhampton Wanderers took the sheen off games in which they scored four and six, respectively.
If the Blues want to be taken seriously as challengers for the top four or even the title, tightening things up at the back must be a priority.
