RB Leipzig’s prolific striker Timo Werner is almost a Chelsea player as it stands as the North London club has agreed to pay his £49.4 million release clause of the German international. Chelsea has also offered the 24-year-old striker about £200,000 per week deal. The agreed weekly wages won’t be static, it will be reviewed upwardly and periodically throughout the duration of the 5 years deal, making him the highest-paid player at Chelsea.

Timo Werner has publicly said he would like to have a taste of Premier League football and he always wanted to do it with a top club in the league. He has initially made it public that he wished to join the current table-toppers, Liverpool. In reaction to that, Liverpool has been monitoring the progress of the German international. They were willing to sign him this summer but they were not willing to pay his release clause, which then opened the door for Chelsea to join the race. Manchester United has also shown interest in buying Timo Werner, but as it stands, Chelsea has played a fast one on other clubs that would have grabbed him this summer.

Besides that, the Stanford Bridge club has also played a fast one on RB Leipzig because if the Blues didn’t make the offer as early as they did, the club would have doubled Timo Werner’s transfer fee after June 15, when his €55 million release clause expires.

Though reports say Timo Werner has publicly said he wouldn’t mind playing for Frank Lampard led team, his signature is all that is required before he can become Chelsea player. If he signs, he would be joining another prolific new recruit of the club Hakim Ziyech, who is joining from Ajax for £33 million on July 1.

After Timo Werner’s signature, the next big target for Chelsea is Leicester’s Ben Chilwell. Frank Lampard has always said he needed a new left-back and he believes Chilwell is the answer to his plan for next season.

If Timo Werner signs for the club this summer, the 24-year-old is expected to bring a lot of goals for the 4th placed Premier League club. Since he joined RB Leipzig in 2016, he has scored a total of 92 goals in 154 appearances.

This season alone, he has scored a career-high of 31 goals in 40 appearances for the German club in all competitions, making him the current second-highest goals scorer in the Bundesliga after Robert Lewandowski. Werner has also been unstoppable in the German national team as he has scored 11 goals in 29 matches for the country.
