French Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) have announced that three of their players have tested positive for COVID-19.
The league champions that lost the opportunity of winning their first UEFA Champions League title on Sunday, August 23, 2020, after falling 1-0 in the hands of German Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, in the finals of the competition, have been on a break from football since the end of the Champions League campaign.
Since most of the players have been holidaying across the world, they had to be tested for COVID-19 before they were allowed to resume for pre-season training ahead of the commencement of their 2020-2021 French Ligue 1 season.
Though the league has started almost two weeks ago, PSG players and coaching crew were given extra weeks to rest from the stress of the Champions League and to prepare for the new season.
They were regrouping in batches ahead of their first match which is scheduled for September 10 against Lens before their three players returned positive after the PCR test conducted on all the playing and non-playing members of the club.
“Three Paris Saint-Germain players have confirmed positive Sars CoV2 tests and are subject to the appropriate health protocol”, PSG published on their official website on Wednesday.
“All of the players and coaching staff will continue to undergo tests in the coming days.”
As of the time of publishing this report, the club was yet to disclose the names of the players that tested positive for the virus, and no player from the club had made his COVID-19 status public.

All players and staff will continue to be tested over the next few days.
PSG became the champions of the 2019-2020 French Ligue 1 season after the season was canceled with at least 12 matches left to play. The league governing body in France decided to cancel the season due to the coronavirus pandemic that forced football to a halt in March 2020.
In the 2020-2021 season, the League champions are expected to start their campaign against Lens on September 10 and end it with Brest on 23 May 2021.
