Thomas Tuchel has turned down Bayern Munich’s offer to continue as Bayern Munich manager next season.
We reported earlier Bayern Munich have resumed talks with Tuchel’s representatives to have him continue at the dugout after initially announcing the decision to part ways with him.
Now, in a report shared by Fabrizio Romano, Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he will not continue as Bayern Munich manager next season.
The former PSG, Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea manager confirmed there have been talks with Bayern Munich hierarchy for him to be retained as manager despite the club’s initial sack decision, but added no agreement has been reached.
“This is my last press conference as FC Bayern manager”.
“There were talks, but we didn’t reach an agreement… so the decision of February still stands”, Tuchel says.
Bayern Munich announced the decision to sack Tuchel following back-to-back Bundesliga defeats against Bayer Leverkusen and Bochum that saw the club capitulate in the Bundesliga title race.
They have been in the hunt for a replacement since then but have suffered multiple setbacks. Former manager Julian Nagelsmann was linked to the job before he decided to renew his contract with the German national team.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was also approached by the club but chose to continue with his triumphant Leverkusen side.
Former Manchester United caretaker manager and Austria national team head Ralf Rangnick was primed for the job but he turned it down to continue with Austria.
The series of rebuttals forced the club to return to the negotiation table with Tuchel. And now, it has ended in another deadlock with Tuchel confirming no agreement has been reached.
The German tactician, who has been linked to a possible return to the Premier League, will now leave at the end of the season.
This leaves Bayern Munich with a herculean task of finding a replacement for Tuchel with less than 24 hours left for the latter to wrap up his campaign with the club.
