The English Premier League has paid more than £318 million to football agents in a period of 12 months between February 2022 and January 2023.

These figures were released by the English FA on March 31, 2023, pertaining to money paid to football agents and intermediaries, which includes permanent and loan deals.

The £318 million was a result of an increase of £46 million in the past 12 months due to the high spending of two of the greatest clubs in the Premier League (Chelsea and Manchester United).

All 20 clubs in the Premier League had paid those amounts, with Manchester City paying the highest amount of £51.6 million to football agents.

The club signed Norwegian striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund with an agent fee of around £35 million.

Chelsea came in second on the list with the signing of 21 players on a permanent deal and two on loan. Since America owner Todd Boehly took over the club, he has spent a staggering £43.2 million.

Liverpool came in third with the signing of Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window from PSV, with a payment of £33.7 million.

Manchester United are in fourth place with £24.7 million. The Premier League leaders, Arsenal, signed three players in the January transfer window, and the agent fee paid accumulated to £16.7 million.

Tottenham comes in sixth with £16.1 million paid to football agents; they have a £0.06 million difference with Arsenal. Both Aston Villa and Leeds United occupied the seventh and eighth positions with £15.6 and £15.3 million, respectively.

Everton came next on the list, with Sean Dyche signing in January, which raised the agent fee to £13.5 million.

Relegation-threatened West Ham come in at No. 10 on the list with a spending total of £12.03 million.

Newcastle, who are competing for the Champions League spot this season, are in 11th place with £10.8 million. Even when they have a rich owner, spending a lot on agents hasn’t been of interest.

Brendan Rodgers’ side comes in at No. 12 with £10.3 million, and Crystal Palace is in 13th place with £9.8 million.

Fulham occupied the 14th spot with £8.8 million, and FA Cup semi-finalists Brighton are in the 15th spot with £8.6 million. 20th-placed Southampton on the Premier League table is in 16th place in terms of payments to agent.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are in 17th place with £6.2 million.

Brentford, who are pushing for a European spot this season, are ranked in 18th place with an amount of £5.6 million. Bournemouth is next on the list with £5.1 million.

The last on the list is Nottingham Forest, who have bought more than 25 players since their return to the Premier League. However, the club’s spending is not excessive compared to other clubs in the Premier League.

While Nottingham Forest spent £4.4 million.
