The manager of Rangers and Liverpool’s legend, Steven Gerrard has admitted that it is his dream to become the coach of Liverpool football club. He however insisted that the current coach of the club, Jurgen Klopp deserves to be respected.

Steven Gerrard shone as a football star at Liverpool in 1998 when he gained promotion to the club’s senior team from the club’s academy. The 40-year-old English tactician spent 19 years at the club winning 9 major titles including one UEFA Champions League title.

He left the club in 2016 to join Major League Soccer club, LA Galaxy for about two seasons before he retired from football to take up a coaching job at the Liverpool youth team. Steven Gerrard became a professional coach in 2018 when Scottish iconic club, Rangers appointed him as their manager.

After struggling to restore the glory of the club for two seasons, he led the club to a historic 2020-2021 season in which Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title with 6 games left to play.

His success at Scotland coincided with the misfortunes Jurgen Klopp has been battling with at Liverpool. The German tactician who helped Liverpool to win the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years last season has been struggling to survive in the league this season.

While Steven Gerrard is enjoying an unbeaten run with Rangers so far this season, Klopp and his boys are suffering 6 successive defeats in the Premier League. Hence, critics of Klopp are clamoring for Gerrard to take over.

But the English tactician told ITV that: “The Liverpool fans don’t want me to be the manager of Liverpool Football Club. They want Jurgen Klopp to continue to be the Liverpool manager, and I’m total with all of them

“We shouldn’t talk about this, we have one of the best managers leading our club at the minute. I love him.

“I hope he stays for a few more years. But I’ve got a job here. I don’t think it’s helpful to talk about this and I hope Jurgen stays at Liverpool for many years…

“Liverpool is my club. I had a great journey. Is it a dream for me to one day be the Liverpool manager? Yes, it is, but not yet and who’s to say I’ll ever be good enough.

“There’s a lot of fantastic managers that would all like the chance to manage Liverpool. We need to respect Jurgen first and foremost.”

Jurgen Klopp who has been the coach of Liverpool since 2015 still has at last three years left on his contract with the Merseyside club. While Steven Gerrard still has three years left on his contract with Rangers.
