Stephanie Frappart will become the first female woman to referee a match at the Men’s World Cup after she was selected to take charge of Germany against Japan, which will take place on December 1, 2022, at 8:00 p.m.
On the field, the 38-year-old French referee will lead an all-female team, with another female referee assisting her from the sidelines.
Brazil’s Neuza Bank and Mexico’s Karen Diaz were chosen as Frappart’s assistants in the match. In addition, Honduran Said Martinez will be the fourth official in the match.
Drew Fischer, a Canadian referee, and Jerome Brisar, a French referee, will serve as VAR officials.
Offside VAR review will also be performed by Americans Kathryn Nesbitt and Massimiliano Irrati.
Frappart was used as the fourth official for the goalless draw between Poland and Mexico on November 22, 2022.
FIFA named three female referees for all the 36 matches in the World Cup, with Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga becoming the first African female referee to be called. It was followed by Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan.
Frappart will culminate her brilliant resume with the World Cup match, and she also has records worthy of several honours.
In 2014, she became the first woman to referee in Ligue 2, the second tier of professional men’s football in France. She also served as a referee at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
She was the first woman to officiate a Ligue 1 match in France, between SC Amiens and RC Strasbourg.
In December 2020, she became the first female official to take charge of a Champions League match between Juventus and Dynamo Kyiv.
In 2019, Frappart was also the referee when Chelsea played against Liverpool in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup.
In the same year, Frappart delivered good officiating in the Women’s World Cup final when the USA defeated the Netherlands.
In March 2021, Frappart officiated the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League match between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea.
The French official was the first female referee to take charge of men’s World Cup qualifiers, as the Netherlands beat Latvia 2-0 in Amsterdam.
Who is Stephanie Frappart?
Frappart was born on December 14, 1983, in Le Plessis-Bouchard and is a French football referee. The female referee is currently 38 years old with a height of 164 cm and a weight of 54 kg.
She started the officiating job in 2011 at the Championnat National in France. When she was 18 years old, Frappart was already officiating National U19 games.
She was named the IFFHS World’s Best Women Referee in 2019, 2020, and 2021. She has issued 53 yellow cards and two red cards in 13 appearances.
