Taty Castellanos scored an incredible four goals as Girona thrashed Real Madrid 4-2 in La Liga on Tuesday.

The win by Girona have helped Barcelona edge closer to the 2022/23 season as they extend their lead on the La Liga table.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team are now 11 points behind Barcelona having played more matches with this defeat dipping all hopes of defending the title.

Castellanos who is on loan from New York City FC to Girona dealt with Real Madrid as the Los Blancos defense showed lapses.

Castellanos previously closed down his social media accounts after he missed a clear chance in Girona’s encounter with Barcelona at Camp Nou.

But the Argentine striker has now redeemed himself as he put 4 goals past Real Madrid and was celebrated by Girona fans.

Carlo Ancelotti revealed afterwards that his team needed to stay in a positive winning dynamic in La Liga but underestimated Girona.

The Italian said after the match that; “A tough night, yes, when you lose a game like that it’s a tough night.”

“On a defensive level it was a bad game, and that was the key to the match… the individual level was lower than normal too.”

“Everybody’s was, not just some people. The level was very low, because the defensive aspect, which was very good in recent games, today, we have forgotten.”

Karim Benzema and keeper Thibaut Courtois were not part of the team that got thrashed by Girona on Tuesday night.

Miguel Gutierrez set up the opening goal after his cross was met well by Castellanos, who headed home from six yards out after 12 minutes.

Rodrygo missed a chance to equalized for Madrid after the electric Vinicius Junior set him up following a mazy dribble.

Castellanos however double the hosts lead after 24 minutes after getting behind Eder Militao and blasted through Andriy Lunin’s legs.

Vinicius did pull one back for the visitors with a header from Marco Asensio’s fine inswinging cross, giving them hope of a second half comeback.

Castellanos again binned that home and scored his third just 36 seconds after the break after a fine run and cross from Yan Couto.

The Argentine pounced again after 62 minutes, capitalizing on a Militao mistake to net his and Girona’s fourth.

The fourth goal by Castellanos opened a Real Madrid’s old wound, as it reminded the Los Blancos of Robert Lewandowski who scored same four goals for Borussia Dortmund in 2013 in the Champions League.

Lucas Vazquez managed to pull one more back for Madrid after Vinicius did more work but it was a little too late.
