Son Heung-min has revealed how former Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho embarrassed him in front of his teammates.

Mourinho handled Spurs between November 2019 and April 2021, with Son being one of the regular names in the Portuguese’s starting XI at the club.

Son Heung-min Speaks On How He Was Embarrassed By Jose Mourinho

Speaking in an interview with EAFC concerning how he was treated by Jose Mourinho, Son Heung-min recalled an incident where he was dressed down at half-time in front of his teammates by the ex-Chelsea boss.

He said: “One time Mourinho told me off during the game. ‘I don’t think you want to be in a game with teams like Burnley or Stoke [a rough game]’ [he told me] in front of all the players and I was so upset for it. I’m not even an 18-19 year old to be treated like that.”

Son added that Mourinho discussed with him after the incident to dilute the tension and disclose the reason for his outburst.

Son Heung-min said: “Later after the match the coach texted me. [He said] ‘I know you understand that it wasn’t my intention to target and hurt you.

“But I need to make sure that other players are not being lazy, and I need to show them by telling off the best player in the team, and for me, that player is you.’ And after reading that text, I feel good.”

Jose Mourinho, who currently handles Turkish giants Fenerbahce, had a relatively impressive spell at Tottenham Hotspur, although he exited the side acrimoniously.

Mourinho guided Spurs to the Carabao Cup final in the 2020/21 season, however, he was dismissed days before he had the chance to battle for the trophy.

The Lilywhites were ultimately beaten by Manchester City 1-0 in the final on April 25, 2021, with Aymeric Laporte scoring the decisive goal of the game in the 82nd minute.
