Sevilla have sacked Jose Luis Mendilibar after a poor start of the season. It is the third manager in the span of 12 months to manage the La Liga giant.

Sevilla confirmed the sacking via Twitter, saying,Sevilla have decided to relieve Jose Luis Mendilibar of his duties as the club’s head coach following the results at the start of the season.”

“The club would like to thank the Basque coach for his services, whose role will go down in the club’s history after winning the Europa League in Budapest.”

The Spanish club had won two matches out of the eleven played in all competitions so far.

They currently sit in 14th place on the La Liga table after a 2-2 draw on October 7, 2023.

It seems that the manager had already lost the dressing room as Fernando was furious after he was substituted in a 2-2 draw against Rayo Vallecano.

In addition, Sevilla haven’t tasted a win in the Champions League this season and they are currently in the 3rd place in Group B of the tournament.

Sevilla are already looking forward to negotiating with former Athletic Bilbao and Valencia coach Marcelino Garcia Toral to replace Mendilibar.

The Spanish giant may also get back Julen Lopetegui who is currently without a club after he was sacked by Wolverhampton Wanderers before the beginning of the season.

Another manager who may likely end up on Sevilla vacant seat is Andoni Iraola. The Spanish manager is under pressure at Bournemouth after a poor start this season.

Meanwhile, Mendilibar won the Europa League for Sevilla in his first season. He defeated AS Roma in the Europa League Finals and Manchester United on the way to the 2022/23 Finals.

The manager also assisted the club in avoiding relegation after taking over from Jorge Sampaoli on March 21, 2023.
