FC Barcelona striker, Sergio Aguero has been discharged from the hospital two days after he had to leave a Spanish La Liga match against Alaves due to chest pain. But he will stay out of football for three months.

On Saturday, October 30, FC Barcelona caretaker coach Sergi Barjuan gave Sergio Aguero his first league start of the season. Unfortunately for the striker who joined the club from Manchester City last summer, he developed chest pain during the first half of the match.

The coach had to replace him with Philippe Coutinho when it was obvious that he could not continue with the game.

After he exited the game which ended in a 1-1 draw, Barcelona’s medical team rushed him to a hospital where he underwent a diagnostic and therapeutic process.

On Monday, November 1, FC Barcelona confirmed that Aguero underwent a cardiological evaluation on Saturday, hours after he was substituted from the league game against Alaves.

The club also announced that the medical team attending to the 33-year-old Argentine football icon would use his three-month break from football to evaluate the effectiveness of his treatment.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The first team player Sergio Agüero has been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr. Josep Brugada. He is unavailable for selection and during the next three months the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated to determine his recovery process.

“The Argentine was taken to hospital for cardiological evaluation on Saturday following the Barça v Alavés game in which the Barça striker felt unwell in the first half and was replaced before halftime by Philippe Coutinho.”

Ahead of FC Barcelona UEFA Champions League group stage game against Dynamo Kyiv scheduled to kick off at 21:00 later today, November 2, Barca’s caretaker coach Barjuan revealed that the footballer was calm when he spoke to him after the Saturday incident.

“I talked to him and he’s calm”, the coach said. “He’s confined to his room but, considering the situation, he’s calm.”

Also, on Monday, Aguero took to his official Twitter page to tweet: “I am well and in good spirits to face the recovery process. I want to thank you all for so many messages of support and love that make my heart stronger today”.

Recall that Sergio Aguero who spent 10 years of his football career at Manchester City suffered a series of injury problems towards the end of his stay at the Premier League club.

He was consistently out with a knee-related injury which made him lose his starting spot despite being the club’s all-time highest goalscorer.

Most football analysts believe that Manchester City would have extended Aguero’s contract if he was not always having fitness issues.

When FC Barcelona decided to sign him on a free transfer last summer, many criticized the move due to how prone to injuries the Argentina international was at City.

Unfortunately for Sergio Aguero, he has proven his critics right by constantly being unfit to play for Barcelona since he arrived at the club last summer.

So far this season, Aguero has managed to play just 5 games in all competitions for FC Barcelona mostly from the bench. His contract with the club will officially expire on June 30, 2023.
