Aguero arrived at Camp Nou on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Manchester City, where he had spent the previous ten years of his career.

The 33-year-old missed the start of the season with Barca due to a calf injury, and he only made five appearances for the club before being sidelined indefinitely by a serious health crisis, forcing him to retire.

In an official press conference at Camp Nou, Aguero reaffirmed his tragic choice to hang up his boots rather than endanger his career.

    Aguero’s Retirement

“This conference is to announce I have decided to stop playing professional football,” he said. “It is a very difficult moment. The decision I have taken is for my health [and relates to] the problem I had a month-and-a-half ago. I have been in good hands with the medical staff.

At Aguero’s declaration, a number of important figures were there. Barcelona president Joan Laporte was present during the announcement, as was Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, was also present, as were representatives from the other clubs for which Aguero has played.

After Sergio Aguero was forced to retire from professional football, Barcelona is reportedly considering re-signing Alexis Sanchez.

Under Antonio Conte, the 32-year-old has been at Inter Milan since 2019, helping the Italian giants win their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Inter are glad to return the Chile striker to Barcelona on loan, owing to the fact that the 32-year-old has only started two games this season and has two goals and three assists in 14 appearances.

De Jong is on loan at Barcelona from Sevilla, but he has struggled to find playing time with the Blaugrana, and Inter are interested in moving the 31-year-old Dutchman to the San Siro to help them improve their attack.

Alexis, the ex-Barcelona player currently working at San Siro. He joined Internazionale in 2019 after leaving Barcelona for Arsenal and subsequently Manchester United. So far this season, he’s tallied two goals and three assists, but he’s been plagued by a series of muscular issues.

Alexis previously spent three seasons with Barcelona, when he played alongside Xavi. Between 2011 and 2014, the Chilean scored 47 goals and added 35 assists in 141 appearances, and is exactly the type of speedy, agile attacker Xavi is looking for in his frontline.

He joined Arsenal after leaving Barcelona and played a key role in the club’s two FA Cup victories in 2015 and 2017.

He joined Manchester United in 2018 and had a disastrous season under Jose Mourinho, before joining Inter on loan.

Returning to the Camp Nou would reunite him with Xavi, who took over as Barcelona manager from Ronald Koeman last month.

Sanchez might also reunite with former teammate Dani Alves, who just returned to his former club as a free agent.

Now it appears that Barca president Joan Laporta and manager Xavi Hernandez will have to sign off on the agreement.
