Chelsea football club might test their new acquisition, Romelu Lukaku against their local rivals, Arsenal football club on Sunday, August 22, 2021.
Reports from Stamford Bridge confirmed that the 28-year-old Belgian striker would start training with his new teammates on Tuesday, August 17 ahead of the London derby.
Recall that Chelsea played their first Premier League game of the 2021-2022 season against Crystal Palace which ended 3-0 in favor of Chelsea. While Arsenal were stunned by a newly promoted Brentford 2-0.
This means that Romelu Lukaku might face an Arsenal side that is still nursing the wounds of a stunning defeat and might use the away match to announce his arrival in the Premier League.
Romelu Lukaku is not new to Premier League football. He has been in the system since 2011 during his first spell at the Stamford Bridge which ended unceremoniously in 2014.
Afterward, he joined Everton where he established himself as a prolific striker. His performance earned him a contract at Manchester United on July 10, 2017, and stayed there until August 8, 2019, before he moved to Inter Milan.
Romelu Lukaku scored a total number of 113 goals and provided 42 assists in 252 Premier League games before he moved to Italy. While at Inter Milan, he scored 64 goals and provided 16 assists in 95 games. He helped the club to win the Serie A title for the first time in 11 years.
This performance made him a priority signing for Chelsea in this summer transfer window. The Premier League club needed him so badly that they had to break their transfer record. They paid Inter Milan a whopping £97.5 million for the signature of the Belgian striker.
Romelu Lukaku describes his return to Chelsea as a chance of a lifetime
On Sunday, August 15, Romelu Lukaku took to his social media pages to share an open letter to the fans of Inter Milan to officially say his bye.
In his letter, the 28-year-old Belgian striker appreciated how the Italian club accepted him and told them how golden it was for him to join Chelsea football club.
Romelu Lukaku stressed that though he is no longer a player of Inter Milan, he would continue to remain a strong supporter of the club.

Below is the letter Lukaku wrote to Inter Milan supporters
“Dear Inter fans. Thank you… Thank you for making me and my family feel at home in Milano.
“Thank you for the unconditional support and love daily. Thank you for motivating me even more after the first season.
“When I came to Inter I immediately felt that I would do well for this club. The love and reception I first received at Malpensa airport was the start of a beautiful story.
“I made it my mission to never let you down every time I wore the Inter shirt. I gave 100 percent in every training session and every game so that I could make you proud.
“Our first season ended in the toughest possible way but you guys gave me the strength to continue to keep pushing and we did as a team. That’s why we became champions together.
“I hope you guys understand my decision to move on to Chelsea. It’s the chance of a lifetime for me and I think at this time of my career it is a chance that I always dreamed of.
“One thing is for sure and that is that I will always remain an ‘interista’ because without you I wouldn’t be the player or man I am today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
