Roberto Firmino to exit Liverpool at the end of the season

    Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino would move away from The Reds when his contractual agreement with the club come to an end at the expiration of the campaign. 

    The 31-year-old has been with Liverpool since he made the switch from TSG Hoffenheim to Merseyside in June 2015. 

    He signed for the English side for £29m and has assisted Liverpool in winning the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Club World Cup throughout his time at Anfield.

    The Brazilian forward has played three-hundred-and-fifty-three (353) games for Liverpool, scoring one-hundred-and-seven (107) goals and creating seventy (70) assists. 

    Firmino’s manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that he wanted the forward to stay with the side. However, even though the player was in conversation over a new deal, he has decided to leave the club. 

    Firmino has found it hard getting back into the starting lineup of Liverpool as a result of several muscle injuries he sustained and the incoming of some players who signed for the Merseyside based club. 

    The arrival of players like Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo ensured that the minutes Firmino gets with the first team reduced drastically.

    The former Hoffenheim man is well respected at Anfield by fans and he played in the central role of Liverpool’s menacing attacking trio, having Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane on both sides of the wing as partners.

    Mane left Liverpool in the summer of 2022 to sign for Bayern Munich on a three-year-deal and collectively the attacking trident led Liverpool to their first league triumph in thirty (30) years when they won the English Premier League in 2019/20.

    Roberto Firmino has garnered twenty-six (26) appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season, scoring nine (9) goals and creating four (4) assists.

    Firmino wasn’t selected for the World Cup in Qatar

    He wasn’t selected by Tite in the Seleção Canarinha’s world cup team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar despite having a good start to the season. 

    After the World Cup, Firmino was nursing an injury and he had his time in the treatment room before he recuperated and came back as a substitute in the Merseyside side derby against Everton on the 13th of February. 

    Liverpool FC defeated neighbors Everton at Anfield via goals from Mohammed Salah and Cody Gakpo. 

    Roberto Firmino made the decision of not renewing his contract with The Reds and he would exit the club alongside his family come July. 

    Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have been informed about the decision and the Brazilian forward expressed his gratitude to Liverpool, the club, the coach and the staff of the club. 

    Firmino has played for just three clubs in his senior footballing career namely Figueirense in Brazil, TSG Hoffenheim in Germany and Liverpool in England. 

    He has scored seventeen (17) goals in fifty-five (55) appearances for Brazil, He represented the country at the 2015, 2019 and 2021 Copa América alongside the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. 

    For the Seleção Canarinha of Brazil, he lifted the South American crown, defeating Peru by 3-1 to win the Copa América in 2019.
