Erik Ten Hag’s men proved superior to the Championship side and cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over the visitors at Old Trafford. No thanks to Andy Carroll’s red card that saw Reading reduced to 10 men against in-form Manchester United.

After a brilliant spell in the Premier League, playing for top clubs such as Liverpool, West Ham, and Newcastle, the 34-year-old Gateshead-born forward is now plying his trade with Reading.

Andy Caroll pulled a clanger that got football fans talking after two rough and controversial tackles within the space of 10 minutes. He was sent off with a second yellow card after the second rash tackle.

Some pundits described Andy Carroll’s embarrassing blunder in the game as the “10 minutes of madness.”

While the rage of trying to get something out of the game after going two goals down is understood, Andy Carroll’s rash challenge was unbecoming of a striker of his experience and pedigree.

The former Liverpool forward made it to the starting lineup as Reading braced up for a fire challenge against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

As expected, Erik Ten Hag’s men held firm control of proceedings in the game but failed to find the back of the net throughout the first half.

In the second half, the Red Devils broke the goal deadlock in the 54th minute. Erik Ten Hag’s hit signing Casemiro put the hosts ahead after an assist from Antony.

Four minutes later, Casemiro bagged his brace to double the lead, setting the Red Devils’ en route to a deserved FA Cup win.

It was after Casmiro’s two quick goals that Andy Carroll pulled his fowler and subsequently met his nemesis after repeating same a few minutes later.

Andy Carroll bagged his first booking in the 59th minute, five minutes after Casmiro’s second goal. He bashed Tyrell Malalcia’s face with his shoulder and was issued a yellow card after the rough challenge.

After the clash with Malacia, Andy Caroll pulled another injurious tackle on Casemiro in the 69th minute. The second challenge saw him bag another yellow card and was sent off, reducing Reading to 10 men.

Meanwhile, he was behind the strong tackle that saw Christian Eriksen injured in the game. Eriksen picked up a knock that saw the former Brentford star limped in crutches after the game after Carroll’s challenge.

After Andy Caroll was sent off, football fans took to their social media pages to blast the ex-Liverpool forward for the moment of madness that saw him barrelling around the pitch and picking a red card.

His red card put the visitors at a disadvantage, and it was long before Man United capitalized on was a numerical advantage to put the game beyond Reading. Fred scored the third goal to make it 3-0 for the Red Devils before Mbengue hit a consolation strike late in the game.

Manchester United held on to win 3-1 and proceed to the next round of the competition, knocking out 10-man Reading.
