Ralph Hasenhuttl has parted ways with Premier League club Southampton after a series of poor performances that put the club in the drop zone.

Luton manager Nathan Jones has been linked with the Southampton job after leading the Championship side to a play-off final last season.

Luton has given permission to Jones to speak with Southampton about the idea of becoming the new manager before the World Cup begins.

In 2019, Jones was Stoke City’s manager. It was unimpressive tenure for him, where he won seven matches in 38 games. He lasted for only ten months before he was kicked out.

Afterward, things turn around for his managerial career. In the 2021–22 season, Jones was named the Championship Manager of the Year.

So far in the 2022-2023 season, Southampton have won three matches out of 14 Premier League matches and currently sit in the 18th position after losing 4-1 to Newcastle.

During his time at St. Mary’s, Hasenhuttl managed to keep the club out of relegation trouble.

Even after suffering a 9-0 defeat to Manchester United and Leicester City, Southampton still showed faith in the Austria manager.

Unfortunately, things turned against him on and off the pitch in recent times. A number of first team players have spoken against the treatment of the manager on the training ground, and it was rumored he lost the dressing room and failed to communicate properly with his players.

Frustration around the squad has been brewing since last season.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has played important roles over the last four seasons since he was appointed to replace Mark Hughes in December 2019.

The manager was able to get good results, bring in young players, and, with a limited budget, stop Southampton from being relegated.

Hasenhuttl also had the best winning rate at the club; he departs with a record of 60 wins from 173 games, a 35 percent win ratio.

Southampton announced that first-team assistant Richard Kitzbichler had also departed. Ruben Selles will take charge of the team in the Carabao Cup against Sheffield Wednesday on November 9, 2022.

Other managers linked to the job are River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo, Sean Dyche, and Bodo/Glimt head coach Kjetil Knutsen.

Another potential replacement is Manchester City assistant manager Enzo Maresca.

    Ralph Hasenhuttl Teams Coached

    1. SpVgg Unterhaching

He started his career as a manager at the club in 2004 and was sacked in 2010 after failing to build upon his success. He got 31 points from 24 matches.

    2. VfR Aalen

Before he joined the club in 2011, it was one point away from relegation. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s presence helped the club survive relegation. He completed building the club, bringing in eight players and releasing 14.

His winning streaks at the club earned him new contracts.

    3. FC Ingolstadt 04

The manager took the club from the bottom to the 10th position. He subsequently got promoted to the Bundesliga 2 and also helped the club finish in the 11th position, but due to the bigger clubs seeking his attention, he failed to renew his contract.

The two other clubs managed by Raphy Hasenhuttl were RB Leipzig and Southampton.
