Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer were seen fighting for who will take the penalty kick in the London Derby against Arsenal.
Raheem Sterling stepped up to play as Chelsea were awarded a spot-kick after VAR confirmed that the ball had struck William Saliba’s hand off Mykhailo Mudryk.
Cole Palmer initially picked up the ball with the intention of playing only for Sterling to grab the ball from the 21-year-old Englishman.
The ball was finally returned to Palmer to take the kick after some discussion had ensued between the players with others stepping in.
Palmer took no prisoners as he side-footed the spot-kick past David Raya to score his second goal for Chelsea since his move from City.
Sterling, on the other hand, is yet to play any penalty for Chelsea since he moved from Manchester City to the West London side.
Sterling, 28, has only taken seven penalties in his club career and has only scored three and missing four of those.
Unlike Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer has tasted success from the spot, scoring in Chelsea’s match against Burnley and in the weekend against Arsenal.
Despite the tussle between Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling, the 15th-minute strike put Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the lead in the match.
The Blues had hoped to record a third Premier League victory in a row as they welcomed Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Mykhailo Mudryk made the score 2-0 in the 48th minute and it looked like Chelsea got all three points in the much-anticipated match.
However, goals from Declan Rice and Lisandro Trossard made sure that Arsenal took home one point from the encounter.
Arsenal came into the game off the back of their massive win over Manchester City before the international break.
