Manchester United players, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial have been included in the six-man shortlist for Premier League June’s Player of the Month.
Both Man Utd and Wolves are yet to record any defeat since the restart of the league after three-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, January signing, Fernandes and his in-form teammate, Martial, have been rewarded for their performance during the month under review. Raul Jimenez, who has been the club’s season record goalscorer and Conor Coady, got the nod for Nuno Espirito’s side. Other players nominated in the list are Newcastle forward, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Southampton striker, Danny Ings.
How the Premier League nominated Fernades and five others
The Red Devils has begun the restart with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham away from home and followed it up with a comprehensive victory over Sheffield United and Brighton. Martial recorded a hat-trick against Sheffield United at the Old Trafford while Fernades got a brace against Brighton, adding to his single goal tally against Spurs.
The win has provided Manchester United with the needed spark in their quest for Champions League qualification.
For Wolves, they got nine points from the available nine when they first shocked West Ham 2-0 at the Olympic Stadium, with the Mexican record goalscorer getting one of the goals to give the team chasing Champions League places hope.
Conor Coady throughput last month gave an assuring performance at the back of the pack, while Jimenez continues with the goal business with three goals from three games, which included his solitary strike in the 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.
Although the Saint lost their last match against Arsenal 2-0 at the St Mary’s, they won two out of three matches since the restart, with Ings contributing three goals and one assist that have lifted the club to 14th in the table, making them clear from the relegation fight with 13 points. Ings who couldn’t make headway after moving to Liverpool from Burley has netted 18 Premier League goals for the season.
Saint-Maximin stood out for the Magpies this season after getting enough rest and during the lockdown, as he is looking someone fresher, with a goal and three assists for the Tyneside. New castles had won their games against Sheffield United and Bournemouth, with the Frenchman being a huge influence.
