Just a week after becoming the fastest Arsenal player to score 50 goals to break Thierry Henry’s record, Arsenal captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has written his name in the club’s record books again.

The Gabonese international has now become the second Arsenal player after Henry to score 20 league goals in two consecutive seasons after scoring Arsenal’s lone goal against Leicester City on Tuesday. Aubameyang, who shared last season’s golden boot with Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane, got his 20th Premier League goal against the Foxes, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory for the Gunners chasing Champions League places with four games to go.
The Gabon international found the net against Brendan Rodgers’ men after Bukayo Saka laid a final pass for him to beat Kasper Schmeichel in goal. But the Foxes were better in the second half, and they eventually got rewarded four minutes to the end of the game when Keechi Iheanacho released a sweeping cross for Jamie Vardy to smash in.

Aubameyang gave the Gunners a 21st minute lead in Tuesday’s league outing against the Foxes to take a slim 1-0 lead into the half-time break at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal legend, Henry achieved the feat for the club five consecutive times between 2001-02 and 2006-07.

Aubameyang enjoying his game at Arsenal

Since his £55 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund to the Emirate Stadium, Aubameyang has been enjoying a starring role in the Gunners’ squad.

After joining Gunner in a January transfer, the skipper scored ten goals in 13 appearances and was more productive in 2018-19, scoring 22 times from 36 games.

Despite ending the game against Brendan Rodger’s men in a draw, it will be crucial in their quest to secure at least European football as Mikel Arteta’s side are now seventh on the log with nine points separating them from the Foxes occupying the final spot of Champions League qualification. But Arsenal is likely to feature in next season’s Europa League with 50 points and five points behind Manchester United in fifth place and two behind Wolves in sixth. Both teams will be playing today.

Out of the 52 goals scored for Arsenal so far, Aubameyang scored 14 of them in 14 games against sides starting the day in the English top-flight relegation zone.

He will be hoping to continue the scoring form when the team travels to London Stadium on Sunday to play Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.
